I help my friends sail there 53' Sloop from St.Thomas to Jacksonville Florida January before last. It is amazing how cold it gets when you are not in the Caribbean !
It was quite the adventure, especially when we got hit by a cold front off of the coast of Cuba. Holy mackerel...20' swells ( or whatever you call those things...waves ?? ) .

yea, i was in a pretty good blow in the middle of the summer, in the middle of the gulf of mexico...inbetween the waves was so deep...when you hit the bottom, every bit of wind would be gone... ...
it gets cold, on blue water, with no land mass to radiate some evening heat...even in the summer...

jlw45: how many of you would consider living aboard a sailboat?...if you've had your fill of one place, just pull up anchor and see where the wind blows you... there's alotta romantic ideas, about living on a boat but, ruff weather can be a beeyatch...
Hey J,
Well I adore the ocean and the thought of living on a boat sounds great and yes very romantic at times, but Im sure it would have its major pitfalls, like storms etc.....so probably couldnt do it long term.......for for say 6 months hell yeah....
love that lapping sound of the water on the hull as you lay there drifting off to sleep

water against the hull is nice....but trigger fish nawing barnicles off the hull at night is a nightmare...
it would have major pitfalls, i'm sure...it just seems to me, the way to travel abroad...your own time schedule comes to mind, off the top of my head...

I've thought of doing that...particularly each time I get the next bill for Council rates, Water rates, power bill, gas....
Anyhoo...Boat dimensions...How big are we talking, J???
