I can't believe GM is still banging on about paying for meals when he's on a date. If I meet someone for the first time it is at lunchtime for a coffee. Usually the gentleman offers to pay, and since we're only talking about a couple of euros I see no harm in accepting his offer.
If we see each other again it is normally for a meal, and I offer to pay half. The last time I did this it was accepted with grace and another time with someone else he insisted on paying. I have no problems with either scenario, the important thing is that neither of us feels offended.
In my own experience when I was seeing someone for quite a while it was not unusual for me to pay for both of us even though his income was much higher than mine, I enjoyed being able to repay his hospitality.

I tend to agree with englishman.....many women like the guy to pay on the first date......since they are trying to suss out what type of person he is ...but are then very happy to pay next time round and to also go dutch....
GenuineMale: I have met a number of ladies via internet dating, not this site that seems to be better than most. Why is it that woman mostly have worked for many years as males have, they mostly have a pension as males have, but they expect the man to always pay.Many are divorced and no doubt are satisfied with their settlement. So why not do the decent thing? If two males went out for a meal and some social life than each would pay their own. I believe this would also apply to two females.
If I was a woman I would feel degraded if I did not pay my own way but this does not seem to apply. Two pensions go out but only one is used to pay for all. How do woman see that as fair?
