I was looking through some old threads and found this one I made about 2 years ago and for 30 minutes I have been laughing myself silly. There are also some very poignant posting in it by members who are no longer with us. To remember someone is the fondest compliment you can bestow.

With all the new members since then I'm sure there are a lot more stories to tell.

There's two in my history: A Nissan Micra I rented while on my recent travels in Ireland. As soon as I saw it the first time I kept walking around it, looking under it, etc... My cousins were asking, "What are you doing?" I told them that I was looking for the key to wind it up. laugh The thing had no power whatsoever and a horse and cart passed us while on a hill as I was trying my darndest to get some more power out of it, putting my foot to the floor to get up that dad blamed hill. Worst car I've ever driven in my life. thumbs down

My 1995 Chevy Camaro. The previous owner's college age son put a stereo system in it that makes the neighbors down the road wet the bed. He also did some modifications on it that my mechanic just scratches his head at and it vibrates at stop signs and lights. It's fast enough though and the local cops know me by name because of it. blushing I'm the only one who can drive it because its idiosyncrasies drive everyone else nuts. laugh

Oh gosh! over many younger years I have owned some pretty precarious cars, just what we could afford back then, yup! no worries! sweet just use the handbrake, as breaks not working....

My step was into hot rods, and was an amazing guy, always had the fords cruising up our driveway...59,57 all of that!, one day whilst he was out fishing, at 16 I found his keys to his 59 ford fairlane, I couldn't resist,! picked up some friends and headed into a cool part of the beach/town, now this is going back some..1976..yay! cruised away brilliant, My step dad had taught me driving when I was 10 in a huckery old land rover on the beach of Piha, he said "jump in and drive"..hey I got! grornching
through the gears, he sat there so proud of me...!(Oh dad! if only you knew what blueprint you set, for when I turned 16...

Knicking his car that afternoon, and driving into beach/town,chick driving this amazing 59, how cool!,(so I felt) I booted it along the straight just couldn't help hearing the grumble of the v8 under me, then with rain I didn't estimate conditions, and spun out and ended up car and all sitting on some railway tracks..jeeez!!! we pushed the car off..
and we went humbly home...sorry not a scary car but a scary driver...but with a talented man like my stepdad, it could be a very scary car...
And yes, I didn't tell him....till many years later, when I did, he said

"Well Soph, he sighed... I always knew to touch the bonnets of my cars when I went out...and yes the 59 was very very warm that day! now help me shell some mussles..

After racing racing Go Karts most of my life, and off road bikes.and many cars later......
I now own a sweet Honda S2000...Now that's deliciously scary...

cool

"in rememberence" To a cool dad! with scary cars../bikes.

Wont tell you about the time I knicked his motor bike.. grin

When I was learning to drive, my father had a 1985 Buick Skylark that was in very desperate need of shocks, struts and other suspension parts. It floated all over the road like a sponge on 4 eggs.

What a cool step-dad! thumbs up My dad let me and my siblings drive his old Ford sedan around the pastures. Leave it to my sister to hit a tree with it. Luckily, not much damage done to the car and my sister got her hide tanned for not being a better driver. laugh I grew up driving the tractor and combine before I ever had a driver's license. Of course, with my lead foot, I always tried to make them go fast. laugh I competed in the local Soap Box Derby at 12 and received a trophy for being the prettiest girl. Still have it on my mantle too.

Don't you just love the feel and sound of a V8 underneath you? Pure heaven. :sighs contentedly: grin grin

An old pickup that my parents had for a wood hauler on our property. The floor had rusted out and the brakes grabbed sometimes.

The brakes failed on it while I was driving with a full load of wood. I was able to stop it by driving up hill and throwing it into park just before it started to roll back down the hill.

All of our other vehicles were better maintained.

I had a Porsche 944 and someone had set the rear suspension to track day hard. which didn't suit the potholed British roads. Hit a bump coming out of a bend and the rear end used to jump out of line on every bump - the back end would go airbourne; it was though OK when I backed the suspension settings off 2 notches to what it should have been.

I had a SAAB 9000 Turbo - which was a limited edition preceding the issue of the Aero version. It had lumpier cams than the standard and a turbo the size of Pluto. It had no traction control and in the wet - starting anywhere in 1st was a risk and it would spin its wheels in 1st 2nd and 3rd.

But - the scariest car I ever drove was a British Leyland Marina 1.8 TC automatic. It was front heavy and the gearbox had a mind of its own - it would often change up in the middle of a greasy roundabout - with a huge jarring 'thump!' and send the back of the car sideways. The brakes were naff and the suspension was horrible too - the only confidence you could ever have - was one that it would try to catch you out. Not a relaxing drive at all

The Porsche doesn't sound so bad, the Saab would have given me great hesitation (one of my neighbors had one and gave me a lift to work one day- that thing rode hard. Folks actually consider it a "small" car here) and the Leyland Marina sounds like a nightmare on wheels! So what do you drive now?
