I think it simply means that people who have been around for a long time actually enjoy seeing people they knew from way back. Not at all because things may or may not have worked out in the real world. There are all kinds of reasons why people take breaks from here and return.

many come back as "their supposed Love" wasn't working out, like they hoped for
so I would prefer to say:
