Steve5721: Facebook is expected to launch a new messaging system seen as a challenge to Google's Gmail, Yahoo and Hotmail.
The giant social network - which boasts more than 500 million users worldwide - will host a special event in San Francisco on Monday.
Unconfirmed reports suggest Facebook could announce its own e-mail address - @facebook.com - or even a fully-fledged web-based e-mail system.http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-11743524
demonfairy: I don't like facebook,i already have to many e-mail address all ready
A tid-bit of info.. But what folks do not realize is that they are data bases, info/data miners and why anyone would freely give up their personal info is beyond many professionals.... facebook AND myspace are the best data bases for gathering data/info... those two along with twitter make "catching the creeps and bad guys" so much easier.. what MANY do not know or even understand is that EVERY and ANYthing you ever wrote, answered, deleted, erased, saved, looked at, typed, submitted, or did is (and always will be) STILL there..! Utilizing cached archives one can almost perform miracles.. ---SoldierByte---

Ccincy: I've had the same problem where it appeared my email addy was being hacked cause more then one of my email contacts stated that they've been recieving solicited email presumed to be from me.I've since closed that email account and began using another on a different carrier and have since had no problems thus far.
The BEST way to do it and stop it.. but I got the impression she only wanted to get a new email addy as a last resort.. But you are correct in that once your email has been hacked.. either by human, cookie, files, or domains.. it is a PROBLEM.. BEST solution.. delete account and start over.. or else.. work it baby.. WORK... ---SB---
SoldierByte: hotmail is a portion/connected and hooked with those data bases (like Window's Live).. by utilizing the "add friends" helpful click me button.. you have inadverdently allowed your contact list to be compromised.. One must NOT be a user of the Window's live group.. If you are.. get out.. and DO your OWN "allowing".. If you believe you are not a member of Live".. go to hotmail.. click "options".. click "more options".. then go there and KEEP looking to you find the place where you can check off notifyers for you and contacts.. If still problem.. get a cookie crumbler.. (yes cookies ARE inserted into your email programs) and that shpuld do it.. but if you do not uncheck access.. the cookies will just be reinserted.. If you need a GOOD cookie remover.. let me know.. AND you need NOT pay... I will show you the free ones.. Your I.E. removes cookies.. BUT NOT deep imbedded ones, reg ones, mail, etc. Hope this helps..
this company provides the best free cookie remover tool.. and free (all their stuff is.. download CCLEANER.. use it .. it will work.. (you ARE using Windows OS I hope)

I chose to close it out and begin fresh.Just got tired of all crap continuing.I guess that other email carrier wasn't all as secured as they claimed.I realize that not awhole lot is secure on the internet but I Still do my best anyway to avoid problems.I never ever give personal info on the net.

Steve5721: I have heard of these and generally when you get an email from a 'friend' telling you to 'click on this link for a good laugh' or something, it is an actual virus that attacks your address book and send on to others.
I had this a coupe of years ago and I was suspicious, so I called my friend and he told me he'd never sent anything to me.
Aha Checked my emails yesterday and there was one from a friend going "Hey man! Check this out!" .. he tends to call me darling, not man, so I was a little suspicious right from the start
It was a link to an American work-from-home so-called moneyspinner, where you simply provide links to websites and become a zillionaire in no time flat.
While he can be a bit of a goose at times, when it comes to computers and the internet, I thought hmm, this is just a little fishy and I bet he knows nothing about it ..

That's exactly what I mean! Click on that link and they have everyone in your address book.
I'm not so sure that you can have a cookie inserted in just a normal email, ie one with no links but just words that you send.
I mainly utilize microsoft.. (unless cloning or accessing hard drives) but a company that does good stuff with osX has a program (free but can donate) that a few of the gals here on CS that utilize macs and apples swear by and are very happy with.. it is here...

a "cookie is simply a file.. can be sent in an email.. most common are to "click here to get .." but there are way more subversive ways to enter.. They (cookies) are in your mail PROGRAM (handler), not always in the email itself.. I hope this explains it better.. sorry.. a good teacher I am not.. ---SoldierByte---

Yes, I understand the cookie in the 'click here' type...but not in the one I send to my sister saying 'hello sis' sort of mail.
