the fall of one city in the east is still far from a victory. Gaddafi's fate will be determined by the fall of Tripoli which is still a long way ahead.
At this point things are still unclear to say what will happen and how long it may take...
The British frigate HMS Westminster is in the Grand Harbour in Malta in an unannounced visit. It is being refueled as I write. I will post a picture later.

# 1257: The Libyan opposition's interim national council leader Mahmoud Jibril has said they no longer need outside help, in a letter to Nicolas Sarkozy, published in Le Figaro newspaper. "We do not want outside forces. We won't need them. We will win the first battle thanks to you. We will win the next battle through our own means."
So, if not wanted, what do we do? Leave before the coalition is blamed for even more than now, or continue.

Finally wisdom is dawning on Mahmoud Jibrill . He realized the price of Oil.

# 1341: Libyan state TV has an original take on the march in London against government spending cuts. A screen caption reads: "Tens of thousands of British citizens out in mass protests now in front of the British House of Commons condemning the colonialist, crusader aggression against the Libyan Great Jamahiriyah."
proves that not everything broadcast by Libyan TV is the truth.
This afternoon coalition war planes have hit Gaddafi targets in the opposition-held town of Misurata. Pro-democracy fighters now say they have moved past Brega further to the west. And that they are heading towards Ras Lanuf both of which they had previously lost.
Al Jazeera's Sue Turton, reporting from Benghazi, says a senior Libyan army officer has been captured:
"We're hearing reports that the number three in Gaddafi's army, Bilgasim Al-Ganga, has been captured overnight in fighting in Ajdabiya. He has a fierce reputation among the opposition who accuse him of committing many atrocities under the Gaddafi regime."
It is now reported that he will be taken back to Benghazi.

interesting, but I seriously question if the letter is genuine or a phony letter written by Gaddafi...

zeus911: Official figures from Libyan state authorities put the figure of 114 persons killed directly by the coalition raids since just Sunday.
Video footage showed mass funerals and relatives expressing their anger. Authorities claim they are civilian victims while coalition forces state they are possibly soldiers.
On the other hand Rebel forces claim thousands dead since the beginning of the conflict.
What we do know is that whether pro-Gaddafi or part of the rebellion, more and more Libyan mothers will bury their dead. When will we see an end to all this?
an end to this? If Gaddafi wins there will be a bloodbath of anyone one who opposed him. If the rebels win, there will probably be revenge against those who support Gaddafi.
I'm afraid the end of open civil war will only end the mass populations fight...not the getting even.
As I announced earlier the British Navy Frigate "HMS Westminster" has come over to Malta earlier today. The Westminster was one of the coalition vessels involved from the first day of actions against the Libyan regime following the UN Resolution. The vessel is clearly here to refuel and to restock its supplies.
I had a close look at the Frigate this afternoon where I could see both a fuel-oil supply vessel next it and a large truck which delivered numerous crates-full of boxes of what appeared to be foodstuffs and beverages. In a strange scene I watched as the sailors formed a 'daisy-chain' from the shore along the gangway right up to the store to pass-on the supplies box-by-box.
Unless this is a security measure, you would think that a modern warship would use a crane to load up its supplies. You can see this in the pictures below. If you look carefully you can also spot one from the ships' galley apparently supervising the loading - (the guy dressed in white with white-cap next to the top of the gangway in the last pic)

French warplanes destroy five Libyan planes and two helicopters on ground at Misurata airport, Reuters news agency quotes armed forces spokesman as saying. It is not clear whether the attack was carried out due to any of the aircraft being used in any attacks in the area.
As a follow up to yesterday's story of the refugee boat with around 300 Erithreans and Ethopians aboard, this afternoon the vessel was reported to be just outside Malta's search and rescue zone drifting towards the Italian island of Lampedusa. The boat was being closely monitored by Italian and other Nato units just inside Libyan waters.
This evening news comes in of a woman who actually gave birth on board an immgrant boat in the Sicilian channel (most likely the same boat). The woman together with her new-born baby had to be rescued by a military helicopter and taken to Lampedusa.
Another pregnant woman picked off the same boat however wasn't as lucky as she lost her unborn child even before she made it to hospital.
