I met the man of my dreams on here :) YAY US... but he's american and I'm canadian...

He proposed this past weekend while I was down for a visit. Now we're trying to figure out this whole immigration/green card stuff so I can move to the states. Anyone gone through this recently that can help us out? Any resourses, websites or advice would be very much appreciated. We're totally lost! And all we want is to be together as soon as possible and not have to worry about me getting deported back to Canada.

Thanks!

This is a good site too... even though it is for british expats it covers lots of info on US/Canadian issues

From what I understand you have to choose between coming in as a tourist and then marrying and adjusting your status or applying for the K1 visa.

The K1 can take time and during it's processing you will not be allowed to travel to the US.

Read the postings and perhaps list there as you'll get better help.

Be aware it will cost a few thousand dollars either way.

Best of luck..

Be prepared for a long long wait..

He still does not have his pr..and its been nearly 2 years..

I hope you are up for the wait..and frustration and all that..

Just be honest..He went to Service Canada to be able to work..the boarder told him no he was not allowed

Make sure he does the Family Sponser ship..they say that is faster..but as i told you its still in the air..

she is right about this. I have family and friends who are married/engaged to foreign nationals

if u tell them u are coming here to marry they will put u through the ringer (immigration service) because they will test u to make sure the marriage is valid and not just a lazy excuse to get into the US - like ur not paying this guy to marry u just to be here (I'm not saying you are doing that BTW just that immigration might want you to prove you're NOT doing that)

I have seen that happen

wow hug Jeez, Kiss, that's kinda depressing. I would've thought you and E would have these problems worked out by now. dunno blues

But of course with GG and me, everything would work out beautifully and easily.

So you're sure that marrying in Canada makes it easier with the Canadian authorities?

By the way, my best to you and E. applause wine

marriage is never easy

sometimes such a process as emigrating makes it 'easy' for someone to bail
and there are those that take marriage seriously

no legal standing in 'my new country' and back single in my original country
