No point in arguing until May. The league table never lies.

Last year at this time Chelsea were flying high just like City are now....Then they hit a bad patch. United are in a bad patch now. Arsenal and Spurs had theirs too.
City will hit a dodgy patch at some stage and then its a matter of weather the other clubs can take advantage of that.

The second half of the season is harder as when you play a club a second time round they tend to be beeter prepared. See where City are come May.

Personally I think they will hit trouble when the really cold wet weather comes in....My money is still on United. A 5 point lead at this stage of the season is no way near uncatchable.

yawn

Heard and seen it all before....yawn

When Chelsea got a new rich owner they were riding a wave for a few years....then they dipped. No matter how much money someone has they soon get bored pumping money into a bottomless hole. laugh

A great football club is built on the strong foundations from the bottom up. Its not about sending more than others....That may win you one or two tiltles like Blackburn and Chelsea but it is not a good long term strategy. City will NEVER have a history to match the big clubs in the UK. Most football fans outside the UK would have never heard of them. laugh tongue

Personally I think its hypocritical when Man U fans are berating City fans for trying to buy the League laugh Man U have done it for years and yet Fergie and others have no problem berating Chelsea and City for doing it.
Yes there are money grabbers at City but it takes time to build a team. I think Mancini is doing a good job and his work ethic is transmitting itself to the players. Personally I think City are here to stay and I think its good for football as they have a long tradition in the industry and their community.

Some people judge success on trophies only but there is much more to a football club than trophies. In saying that City will have to extend theirs over the next few years IMO. I would prefer to see them winning the League than Utd, Chelsea or Liverpool.

I didn't berate anyone for buying the leage....It worked for Chelsea and Blackburn but I said it's not a good long term srtrategy. A great team needs a great youth policy. They need to produce players as well as buy them or success will not be long lived.

I just think City fans are singing too soon....5 point lead in Novemeber is nothing. In May if they win the leage then they can sing all they want. They are all talking like its May and they are 10 points clear.

Yeah I dont see that K. Maybe its just Utd supporters who see that cause of the hurt laugh They have been starved of success for so long they are certainly enjoying the exalted position they are in, but if you take Blu for instance he is far too much of a supporter to realise anything is won in November. Or even with 8 matches to go and a nine point lead wink laugh I reckon the 6-1 result was much more of a statement than a 5 point lead. They are here to stay and I think they have a far better squad than Utd. Whether they keep gelling is the question. Interesting season.

Cant argue that City have a far better squad than United, in that respect they are light years ahead! But its Ferguson that seems to make the difference, if Ferguson had the players Mancini has, he would walk the league for the next 5 years!

I dont think te 6-1 result is that important...I remember Newcastle putting 5 past United and being 10 points clear one year....They then fell apart with the pressure. Only time will tell.

The thing about City and Chelsea is they are rich boys toys. The man who bought City was first looking at Everton...If he bought them we would be talking about Everton like this. The same with Chelsea....But the true big clubs are built on so much more....United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs, Villa to name a few all have a huge history and have earned their place in world football....I dont think City and Chelsea have done that....They are mere toys for really rich boys.

I dont know about that Rob laugh They say managers build teams in their own image and I tend to agree with that. Nothing lasts forever, especially in football. Ask Liverpool supporters laugh
I dont think any club will win the League for the next 5 years running but if I was asked to choose it would be City and Mancini doing it laugh

Passion! Thats lacking at City. That is what will cost them in the long run imo! Unpassionate money-grabbing players! I like Mancini, i think City have great supporters, its just too rushed imo!

The thing is Vinny, I don't believe you can necessarily buy the league. Okay having money does make things A LOT easier but you have to know who to buy and when to buy them. You can end up buying a load of great players but then you have to find a system that you can fit them all into. Leeds were a prime example. No offence to any Leeds fans but they were buying players for positions where they didn't need them. They brought Robbie Keane and countless others they didn't need. They ended up nearly going bust over it. I have no problem with clubs paying lots of money to buy players. Its the capitalist way but I do think its a good thing these new fair play rules have come in because now you can no longer spend a percentage of what you have. Having a rich owner won't matter as much as it does now. They can invest lots of money to begin with but ultimately the club has to be self-sufficient in the long run. Thats what I believe Abramovich is trying to do at Chelsea and I think Man City will be forced to do the same thing sooner or later.

As for people judging success on trophies, I agree that there is more to a football club than trophies but I think most people would judge success on trophies. Otherwise, why give out trophies at all?

I agree to an extent that it could be a rich mans toy. Then again he could be oin it for the long haul. Either way I would prefer someone owning the club like him as a toy than the glazers who just seem to want to make money out of the club.

I dont like the fact The Glazers own Man U either...I personally dont think one man or one family should be allowed own a football club. It is not in the long term interest of the club.

But I would prefer the Glazers to some multi billionaire who treats the club as a play thing....City and Chelsea make huge losses every year...If their owner loses interest they are up the creek without a paddle...The club will cease to exist....But that couldn't happen at Man U as they bring in a lot of money and is is in the Glazers interest to run the club properly.

And @ SD
Single owners have run clubs since the start of organised proffesional football. To some it was a play thing, to some it was to make money and to others it was a passion. Just because they are foreign owners now it is no different to me. They could be gone tmorrow. I hope the new guidelines on turnover and salaries will help it become more of a level playing pitch for everyone. City will have to abide by the laws and while there are loopholes I think there is a will to lvel that playing pitch and have clubs run properly that will eventually lead to all clubs having to be self sustaining.

Dave O Leary wanted everyone Noel laugh and Mancini is no O Leary thankfully. I personally think City will be winning trophies and competing in the next few years and I think its a good thing.

Steve Bruce sacked. Kean surely next, followed by AVB.
