its discimination when you go to pay the dog registration.when you should be paying for a kelpie, and not a dog thats classed as dangerous.

As far as l know thier is a genetic test you can have done to prove that your dog is a Kelpie, they wouldnt be able to dispute it then. I had a Ble Merle smooth Collie and he got out one day and the ranger found him, they thought he was a German Coolie cross...they have absolutley no idea when it comes to dog breeds.

unfortunately they are the ones that always get caught by the revenue raisers the rangers.i went to ndo a job in samoa, and a little dog befriended me, it was a besenji,a stray but noone could catch it,and when i leftthe island, i wanted to take it bac but wasnt allowed, had to go in quarantine for a coupleof months

I would get a letter from your vet who has a better idea of what your dog is and take that to the registration council

Worth a try wine

If it were me, I'd be putting 'unknown' on the breed ... or as Tarnz suggested get the vet to put 'kelpie cross' or 'unknown'.

Council wont argue with a vet classification, its like work arguing with a doctors certificate.. aint gonna happen.

Cats are just so much easier.... DSH - Domestic Short Hair, or DLH -Domestic Long Hair.

Try that, put DSH for breed and see if they ask..wink

Pure bred dogs are classed by their standards. I have a Wire Haired Fox Terrier (owned and bred them for more than 30 years) but very few people know what they are. Very insulting for them to be called Jack Russels.very mad

When you have cross-breeds, it is usually classed by the most dominant feature. The exception is the 'pitbull.' There is a pure breed and this is known as the American Staffordshire Terrier. Unfortunately, the term 'pitbull' relates to those mongrel crossbreeds that are bred to be savage. 20 years ago, we referred to them as 'pig-dogs' and they were bred to hunt down pigs in the wild. Now, people want them as 'pets to protect.' And we know what happens when they get loose in suburbia.
