a friend of mine is getting married next year.
she is 44, it's her first marriage and now she wants to wear a big white weddingdress.
her sister told her she is too old for this and advised her to wear something else, in an off white color.
now I wonder myself what would be best. personally I think she must wear whatever she wants, it's HER weddingday. I understand her...it's her first wedding, she must be allowed to have the dream of the big white dress if that is her dream but to me, it's all a bit overdone. so I understand her sisters wishes as well.
she is not very young, experienced and for some reason, which I cannot explain, a white virginlike dress doesn't seem right.
so I wonder, untill what age a girl or woman can wear these types of weddingdresses?
hope I expressed myself well....it's difficult to put it down here.
Car I agree with you... personal decision of each one. I can speak just about me... I had no white dress during my wedding ceremony, because of my personal opinion and decision. And marriage was happy, by the way interesting thread

So, men who wear white socks are virgins, eh?
I think she should wear exactly the colour she wants to wear, whether that's black, white, or sky blue pink with rainbow dots on.
Although, the nicest wedding dress I've ever seen was a creamy yellow traditional Scottish wedding dress that I had the pleasure of altering for a mature bride. I think she was late 50's/early 60's and she looked amazing.

I was busy getting married way back when I was 20.
I choose a red dress....cost me a fortune...and I cancelled the wedding one day before happening.
second time, I was 22 or something....I let go of the idea of a romantic dress....and played with the idea of wearing a small pinkish dress. cancelled again.....don't think I am good wedding material....cold feet etc..
in my opinion these types of dresses are for young girls being very not experienced....and innocent. you know what I mean?
my friend kissed a lot of frogs before she met her prince....and in some way...it doesn't add up with wearing a white dress. if I were her, I wouldn't wear such a dress..
it's too much.... on the other hand....she is a one time bride....I know her...so I understand where she comes from....
and omg....I drank too much wine.....can't think straight...

Strictly from a male perspective, but isn't a white wedding dress significant of virginity and no matter what age the bride is that would be the determining factor. However in todays permissive society I suppose she could where it being she hasn't been married before. Really just a matter of semantics. Her choice...it's her day

I wouldn’t like anyone to tell me what to wear. If this woman wants a white wedding dress – why not? It’s her wedding.
We are always too young, or too old, or too fat, or too skinny for this and for that. If you listen to others. Sometimes it’s also ok to listen to oneself.
Carenza once I decide one day to have a wedding I wish look like Morticia ... just because I still think Anjelica Huston was fabulous in the Adams´Family white no...

yeah...
I feel the same.....it's her day....her wedding...her dress...
but I know her....she is also insecure on the inside. at this moment, she is ...how do I say that....putting her heels in the sand towards her sister's strong opinion...
but I KNOW she will ask me and other friends what they will do. and I KNOW every answer will make her feel insecure.... I already decided for myself to tell her it's her day and so on when she askes me. not of my business.
but I just wondered.
20 in such a dress seems okay 30 in such a dress....erm......okay 40 in such a dress....erm.....okay? erm.....why?......okay...I guess 50 in such a dress....no way....too old!
White, black, purple, red dress(es). Age? Who cares honestly? For years, white was not worn as was viewed as a symbol of mourning, the same with black.
Some traditions just make no sense what-so-ever....your friend should wear whatever she likes and wants.
I don't think age should matter on what the colour of the dress is. As long as the bride is happy; I would support her decision to wear whatever she wants.

I think white wedding dress is for virgins, tell her to wear a black one at 44.
