Not a happy memory/occasion for our Indigenous folk...For them it represents a time of great sorrow, when millions of their ancestors were massacred or wiped out through introduction of diseases.

Otherwise, yes, proudly fly the flag australia...No doubt we will hear from our Lambassador, Sam Kekovic any tick of the clock, to truly mark the occasion.

It falls on a Thursday this year... Umm... guess the Friday could be an annual leave day... grin

As to what I am going to do... will all depend on the weather.. If its hot like we have at the moment.. it will be movie day.. uh oh

On the other hand, if its nice outdoor weather.. then I might go for my annual dip the toes into the ocean... grin

TG for Sam Kekovic to spread the most important message for us Aussies. Our PM lets us live in hope that one day it will get better (especially as her pension is not really dependant on how good the rest of us fare).

But our idigineous people would most likely have faired much worse if the French (La Perouse) or Dutch (Dampier or van Demien) had taken over Autralia. Oh venere08, you are much deluded if you believe that the English were the worst of the worst when it comes to coloniaism (?).

Perhaps they might have, but I'm not as well inforrmed as you are, to know whether the French or Dutch were better marksmen...Or whether they had worse diseases that might have killed off even more aboriginals..:)

As for delusion about the English etc...Boy, the English language is more versatile than I ever thought. How you extracted that interpretation from my post can only be evidence of a really creative mind, wash2...sorry, but you lost me! rolling on the floor laughing

If we listen to the Politically Correct crowd we would not have a Public Holiday at all!

Australia Day - offends the indigineous population

Queens Birthday - she's a Pom

Easter - too religious, offends anyone who is not a christian

Christmas - ditto

Not much left? doh And we all know how us aussies love a holiday?? applause banana cheering

So being a person of good character (not exactly religious) and a (former) Pom, now a Citizen, I will definitely be putting the snags and a few prawns on the barbie on Straylia Day. australia australia australia australia

Will more than likely be at the beach - Paradise Point being the hot favourite - what a name "Paradise Point", name says it all? thumbs up thumbs up thumbs up

Be having a few stubbies cheers and chardys no doubt wine wine wine by way of celebrating finding my place in "The Lucky Country" cheering applause dancing
