Well, how do you see 2012 panning out?
Would you invest in property, shares etc or just leave your $$$ in the bank?
Do you see unemployment dropping/rising?
Interest rates dropping/rising?
How do you see your industry going in the future?

Well, how do you see 2012 panning out? Going by the 1st 2 weeks, very well.
Would you invest in property, shares etc or just leave your $$$ in the bank? I'm considering investing in property, get a bargain basement rental in the Valley or closer to home when the desalination crew leave and the property prices plummet.
Do you see unemployment dropping/rising? I think unemployment is going to rise, dunno
Interest rates dropping/rising? I think they will drop so I should have some extra $$$ left over to play with hopefully.
How do you see your industry going in the future?dunno Lots of people using E readers now instead of real books so as the up-take of these occur and more people just down load their books on the net, I'm thinking my sales will drop.

Well my balls aren’t Chrystal ether?
But I will have a go at it for you on what I think, and my observations here in the west,

Unskilled unemployment will keep rising as no one is prepared to do any training?
Skilled employment will keep being sort offshore?

House prices will increase as housing shortage is rampant, when people have to bid on how much rent they are willing to pay rather than the asking price!

Interest rates will drop for two more quarters, as no one is prepared to part with their cash with the carbon tax coming in,

Come November interest rates will rise,

The EU will collapse dropping the markets and your retirement funds,

Petrol prices will sore again so if you do buy a house make sure it is close to work!

Abbert and Gillard will be replaced within the year!

I am unlikely to invest in anything so I will keep my $$$ in the bank.

However I have been throwing extra dollars at my personal loan and credit card and am planning to be debt-free within two years (I don't have a mortgage).

I feel my job within the retail industry is secure, but my boss has little or no idea of strategic planning and certainly doesn't appear to have any contingency plans so rather than continue to bump along with her and her 'hopes' that things will improve (which is a sure way for a business to ultimately fail) I am putting feelers out for a position with a forward-thinking, motivated and driven owner/organisation.

As for unemployment and interest rates, I can't imagine either will be anything to celebrate as there are no magic formulas appearing on the horizon.

My industry also would have suffered from the impact of e-commerce, even though it relates to bulky goods and homewares, however I do believe that the strong will survive and prosper - it comes down to innovation, astute and well thought-out business decisions and planning, and most importantly, recognising and addressing the constantly changing needs of customers, both present and potential.

Interest rates will rise because no one is certain how much it will really cost them. People won't be spending on useless imports or slightly more expensive Aussie-made products. According to the Govt, the "average household" will be $9 per week better off (new advert - looking for woman with 2.4 children so I can have an average household). Having just been looking at the forecasted costs for the next financial year (and a couple more), your local Council will need to spend about 25% extra just to keep the street lights on at night. But the Carbon Tax will increase by "only" 2.5% per year for the next 3 years after that. After that, it will depend on what is being done overseas (EU is the market indicator on that one).

Job vacancies are currently nationally at 180,000 with unemployment figures now being based on 'not working' at any time with 'part-time' being included with those doing full-time work. With more and more businesses going under because they cannot compete with the cheap imports, things are likely to get tough.

I have looked at investing in rental properties but they do not provide a viable return in the short-term and I do not believe I can make a sufficient return on them in the medium term.

was reported the other day, institutions electing to purchase German Government Bonds are actually paying for the privilege, the German Bank not paying interests on the bonds rather the applicants to purchase them have been paying the bank for allowing them to purchase

Here on the Gold Coast there are properties with "For Rent" signs outside, quite a few, which I have not seen before in the 10 yrs I have been here. Usually December/January is red hot for property sales but not this year? People are either being cautious, or it is a buyers market, people looking for a bargain.

I don't think you can generalise about the property market as here for example is a place where a lot of people have their holiday appt, future retirement home and when the going gets tough it is probably one of the first things to do. doh

Whereas if you look to the mining industry, accommodation for mining employees ..... well it would have been a good investment a few years ago as they will be in big demand now?

There are communities living in valleys with 20 miles of un-burnt off forest to escape through from Wollongong to the Vic boarder, i checked out well over hundred acres of grass, blackberry and ragwort forestry lay claim to just the other day, in its day the land would have been a lovely dairy farm, now its head high grass and covered in weeds, they got lots of those in the mountains round here lovely cleared flats just wasting away.

Hundreds of people could and probably would die if the right conditions pop up

yeah good night pebbles

while in NZ i accessed the then new Aust Fire department web site at the time fires suburbs burn in Canberra, on the Saturday morning before it reached there nearly every ridge lit up from Wollongong south west round to the Hume Highway and burnt all the way up to Canberra

Think they have now blocked public access to the site that displays real time information on all fires in Australia.

its not only the costof the farming, they dont make much anyway, ive got friends that live and work there, they dont like the bush being overgrown in summer, and not being allowed to do anything about it.when youve got 20 kilometres of dense overgrown bush behind your back door and you cant let the cattle out to graze it ,its just not on.Its good grass going to waste, and gives their grass on their other paddocks a time to regenerate.like you said they ban everything,i,m only alloewed to have two geese ,ive got nine lol,and i heard that you cant let your grass go longer trhan 240mm in bushfire season, yet most of the roadside grass is 800 mm high
