I've never been to France but I think a little stone cottage in a village sounds idyllic and quite dreamy daydream

Is there somewhere you'd like to try living life for a while if you could grin

Funny you should say that Serene. after my trip to France in 94, I always said I'd like to live there... Its the most wonderful place... even a couple of years ago, because of that stupid icelandic volcano eruption, we had to take a bus outta Spain and into UK, so of course, we travelled thru France, and thru the tunnel... you could see visibly when the spain border met the French border, its so wonderful...

Oh thanks merri applause

A couple of books I've read lately have involved an Aussie spending a large proportion of each year there and it sounds lovely conversing

And apparently, lots of people are investing in property there as you can pick up a house for a fraction of the price here grin

Errm... serene, Iamaman and Solsticemoon both have rental properties, and careful as you go, because there is no work at all in Spain, and the rentals are really slow... compared to 2 years ago... so dont be doing it as an investment at the moment..

There is a wonderful village just out of Monte Carlo called Enz. Narrow streets where only a pushcart can get though. Idealic setting but they only speak one language, not mine. Strazburg, Vienna, Florence, Broughton-on-Water, Pennys-Gross, Cardiff, Abergavenney, Scone, Edinborough, Heathcote, Bath, Lakes District, Orban, Scotland, Bavaira, Austria and Switzerland. All beautiful places. And so many more that I have fond memories of.

It is good to have a dream and hopefully be able to achieve what we are looking for. I am happy where I am and would not swap it for much more than I already have. Maybe a cottage by the sea where I can see the surf rolling in.

Hi Serene,

dommage que vous avez posté ce thread dans le "lounge" section.

Mon ami a posté des photos magnifiques des meilleurs villages français sur fb. .. que j'aurais mis sur ici, si j'avais pu.

Ces villages sont très belles.

[Too bad that you posted this thread in the 'lounge' section. My friend has posted some wonderful photos of best French villages on fb... which I would have put on here, if I could have.
These villages are so very beautiful. ]

Being we are pretending to be walking about in a French village, thought I'd go the whole hog, and think in that language.

I've been to London. Seen Great Britain. Although Village life anywhere in Britain would suit me fine. Living in London gives me the best of both worlds. Life in London isn't really that far removed from Coro ST and Eastenders. The Local really is the centre of life. It does become your extended family.

For a loner it really is the best way to pretend your not alone.

But London as brill Public Transport, Great stadiums, Music Galore, And all the best Theatre at affordable pricing. Something that has yet had to proven here Downunder.

Never had a feel for London, Paris or Rome. But loved getting around in Europe and UK (why do we always separate them?). Vienna and Lucerne had 'feel' to them. Wherever you travel in im Europe or Uk (yeah, I said it), when you get away from the cities, people are just people.

But.....You are treated as a visitor spending money and not a local.

And same goes for Australia. One of my uncles lived in a small town and was always considered a "newbie" even after 40 years. Met a guy in Corowa last weekend and because I was only the 3rd person ever having heard of his birthplace, almost rated me as a relo (I have relos very close).
