wash2u: At school, I had to read Lord of The Flies. And do essays and exams on it. On saying that, I did get an understanding of the 'pack mentality' (after reading the bloody book umpteen times trying to work it out). And "yes" I am guilty of doing that stuff over my time. But always managed to put a halt to it when I have managed to sit back and look at what I was doing.

I am a pacifist and I'll fight anyone who says I'm not.

I think we all had to read Lord of the Flies... yes, great example of herd mentality...

Its a kill or be killed thing... Survival... we all have that instinct..

innocent

But its how we go about the survival that's important...

I have always bucked the system to my detriment some of the time, maybe its because I was an only child and a bit of a loner growing up.

Mass hysteria really gets me I remember all the girls screaming when Jailhouse Rock was shown at the local Cinema I could not believe it
and they still do it (see One Direction)how do their minds work screaming over nothing really.

Still cant figure it out.confused

Even when posts are written respectfully, yet speaking your mind, someone will inevitably retaliate out of the blue, with a personal attack, or some other abusive comment.

Others still, after reading into your post, feel driven to muster support from farway places transport... Many here read stuff into posts that just is not there, projecting their own irrational insecurities onto the poster, fabricating stuff out of thin air. drinking...Drama queens violin.laugh

Then of-course there is the forum police who pop up now again when they feel the need to restore their sense of online world order.

Sorry to say, daggy, this place will never change because people are people and onliners, another breed again. crazy

All animals are defensive of themselves. If they believe they are being attacted (in reality or imagined) they will take whatever it takes to defend themselves.

Attack is the best form of defense.

All said and done, we should think a bit more before we post as some may take offense.

Yes, it is one of them. Many forms of defence abound, especially around here...I agree with you, the operative word being 'believe'.

For example, a person with paranoid schizophrenia may fully believe that the person in front of them is about to kill them 'cos the voices tell her so. From their world they act in self defence and attack the other, knifing that person in the chest(it happenedhere a few years ago). Now we know that the person who was knifed was not an actual threat, but only perceived to be by the mentally ill person.

On a much lesser scale of perceived threats, is what goes on around here all too oftendoh ...Blame the other is the name of the game. They emotionalise, dramatise, catastrophise, and any number of other 'ises' laugh

cheers

All the "..ises" are here so often. Being able to write stuff down (whether privately or publicly) or telling our experiences or emotions or even sharing our knowledge is not a bad thing. If it gives someone a smile, it is good. If it gives someone hope, it is a good thing. If someone knows that someone else is experiencing the same thing, it is a good thing.

But I cannot agree with your reference to perceived threats and the mentally ill around here. The 3 of us (me, myself and I) all agree that this is unfounded.

It's neither good nor bad. It's what the forums are for, right?
