DUBLINGUY1973: Maybe to some but the difference is that United haven't gone seven seasons without winning a trophy...at least not since the 60s. Clubs come along with their pots of cash ever since the premiership began and rivalled United. Thats the one constant - United.
We saw Blackburn win it in 1995, fall apart after Kenny jumped ship and even Jack Walker's millions couldn't save them. Then a few years later they were relegated.
Then we had Arsenal and United swap the title around for a couple of years.
Then We saw Chelsea come along with their russian billionaire and they won the title for two seasons in a row and everyone said they would be the dominant team for the next ten years. Their form dipped, Mourinho left and they loitered around the top four without really challenging and United won the title again. Then Ancelotti came in and helped them win the double and they were tipped for total domination for a long time again. What happened? Their form dipped again, they won nothing the following season, Ancelotti was sacked and United won the title again.
Then along came City with their arab billionaire with pots of cash and they start challenging for the title. Then two years later, they win it. In my long winded way, what I am trying to say is whats to stop City from falling away eventually like Blackburn, Arsenal and Chelsea? Winning it the first time is hard, winning it a second time is very difficult but it won't be until they win it a third time in a row, that I will start to worry but not before then. United have had their blips over the years just like every team has a blip over the course of a season. I am confident this is no different.
The big difference in all of that is Purple Nose, when things were against him he always had the backing of the club and the owners and there was never a knee jerked reaction to a small problem of not winning the league...that's all gonna change in maybe 2 seasons...the days of managers staying for 10+ seasons are long gone!!
The other difference is the spending, Roman is a peasant compared to these Arabs (not just one Arab either)they love football and after winning their first league title they're gonna want more and more..have you ever researched how much money they have and how much they actually earn?? If not then you really should..the Glaziers are window fitters as far as these lads are concerned

It would take three or four seasons without a trophy for Sir Alex to be sacked even now. Chairmen and owners these days have little or no patience. You're right about the money aspect but you seem to be forgetting one thing. There is no point in having all the money in the world if you don't spend it wisely. Everyone makes mistakes occasionally. Even the best managers. The more money you have, the more pressure you're under to get results. If City have one bad season then Mancini could be out on his ear and winning this title this season won't matter as much as winning the next one and the next one and so on. They could end up looking for managers every other season like Chelsea. I could be wrong and maybe Mancini will be there for many years to come but we'll see....

He makes a great point Noel.
Nobody knows what any owner is going to do in the future so its futile to argue that point.
DUBLINGUY1973: True but the same could be said for the Glazers. Only time will tell.
That's my point exactly
I think they have shown loyalty to an extent already with Mancini. If it was chelsea they would have sacked him last year after not making the top four
Theoneucanthate: Di Matteo has to get the Chelsea job now surely :)
yeah he has to..great win for Chelsea I said it ages ago when people were telling me I was mad they would win...should have put money on them...they were 12/1
