tonyxf: Yeah well, the tax department owes me MILLIONS

But we do have some Laws which allow them to take a hefty chunk out the hard earned money we make so those poor unfortunates that don't work can survive.

bubbles2012: and btw for those that are interested ... I was a housewife for 20 odd years raising my children (my ex supported me up until I secured a job), I have a background in nursing... when my marriage went belly up... I did courses in admin... and guess what? I now work in a factory as a process worker ... I didn't care where I worked as long as I was paid the legistative amount, and it did not include shift work or weekends so that I can still take care of my children... even if they are 15 and 17

Hi ah Bubbles.
Teenage children are so very expensive, especially to feed as they are growing... ( I had boys and a mostly depleted fridge)
What is more, they are in their growing stages, so lots of clothes constantly as they grow out of them very quickly.
They are at danger of being involved in peer groups... so need to be constantly on their case
They often play sports and need driving about..

I found these years the hardest, and if you can be home to watch them, great..
If you need to work, that is less great. but clearly necessary.

I really cannot understand why its not apparent, that if you can be home, and you are there to monitor children in their behaviour patterns, you are likely to be bringing up better children for the future .Is this not better in the long run, and cost saving for the long run.???

I dont like the latch key attitude... I wish there was a better way, but clearly, there isn't .

sigh

Bubbles, Well done to you and you keep on doing what you think is best. wave

Go figure??

I read in the paper yesterday that a married couple in their 60s, he has recently retired, she still works, are only entitled to $19 p/w payment for him but if they were defacto he would get a full pension??

My neighbours got married 2 mths ago he works 3-4 days a week she gets $280-$320 per fortnight depending on what he earns.and can apply for cash advances from parenting payment and family tax and they get rent assistance. This I know as they have to give over paper work/ income statements at one of the places I worked at.

yeah, but the cash advances from parenting allowance have to be repaid each fortnight and it's based on a percentage of what is deemed to be your yearly allowance.... ( I know this as I apply for my advance twice a year ... beginning of the school year and mid school year)

Rental assistance is available - but the again the amount depends on the rent you are paying and the location you are living and it is a percentage...

As for the 280 and 320 per fortnight - number of children in her care - you don't get parenting allowance if you have no kids.... and the full rate is around 600.00/fn so they are not getting the full amount..
