I've had wasps build a nest on a decorative concrete elephant's head thingy hanging off my back fence the last couple of summers.

When I was sure they had vacated the premises the summer before last, I removed and disposed of the nest but of course they've returned a built a new home once again.

It seems they've now moved on (I'll make sure before I touch it) and I've read that after removing the nest, putting tea tree oil or even rubbing a bar of soap on the favoured spot deters them from returning confused

In future, I would like to keep them away altogether if possible so any advice would be appreciated wine

I used to get those little tiny wasps in Brisbane under my eaves and they gave a nasty bite when stirred up. I used to spray Baygon on them and bolt for the door before they swarmed on me. My step son once got bitten all inside his shirt by a swarm of European wasps after he kicked a tussock of grass on the foreshore.
I'm not really sure about your deterrents, but anything is worth a go as I hate wasps.

Had a problems with WASPs when I first got married. We moved away from the Presbyterian Church at Cronullato the inner city where White Anglo-Saxon Parents did not seem to be around as much.

Yes they are larger and way more aggressive then the normal wild wasp they attack if you come near them. I was walking along the street in a country town walked under a tree and they went crazy and stung me all up my arm nearly paralized my arm took 24 hrs to calm down after antibiotics pumped into me. that was in 2009
