I have grown up with some family being a tad well off. Uncle Hilton owned 3 blocks of units overlooking Cronulla beach (he built them). Uncle Norman was a Wing Commander (and whatever came next) in the RAAF and lived in Toorak. Uncle Roy was THE account for GMH NSW. Uncle Doug owned several properties in Mosman NSW. Uncle Ronnie had a good plumbing busines going and doing a lot of work around Vaucluse NSW but went broke because they wouldn't pay.
We were the poor relations but we were family and nobody noticed any difference.
My brother left school at 14 and is a bricklayer. He had at one time 20 houses although sold off a few now he has retired. And if you saw him, you would think he didn't have a zac to his name. Drill cotton workshirt, stubbies and workboots is the norm.
People find their own comfort level for how they want to live, no matter how much money they have.

I watched an interview a few years ago, of the guy who started "jim's Mowing'. He's worth squillions, but dresses in daggy(comfy)clothes, drove a beat up volvo, and owned one suit and I think one pair of dressy shoes.

Oh yeah, Jim Penman. And did they mention that he has a PhD in History of all things? I read a small book he wrote that summarised his thesis. It was fascinating.
