Thanksgiving Dinner ( Archived) (97)

Oh I forgot--I wasn't really sure what I was going to do this Thanksgiving, and it is my fave Holiday. Out of the blue my neighbor gave me a turkey (a $35.00 value) that she got for spending over a certain amount. Since she already had bought a turkey, she didn't need it. Let me tell you, I was very glad to get it. Even if I spend Thanksgiving alone, it will be a great dinner and plenty of food to store for the winter. (I am thinking that something will happen and I will be able to share my home and dinner with someone who needs it. I hope so. Life's funny that way, you know. Wow, I have a big job ahead, fixing a big meal!)

Gentlejim: For the people who celebrate Thanksgiving, what is your favorite Thanksgiving dinner? Also, are you hosting Thanksgiving at your home?

I would like to host a thanksgiving celebration with family - however not this year - so I will look for a place to hide out.

I finally figured out what to cook for Thanksgiving.

Thanks to a dealership who was giving out vouchers for a free turkey I'll be cooking from scratch of course the Turkey, mashed postates/gravy,mashed and sweet potatoes, veggies and maybe make my own cranberry relish, and homemade granny apple pie.

Mouth watering, we don't celebrate Thanksgiving, our contribution was the Pilgrim Fathers.

Have a good one.

I'm living proof. The problem is that everyone has favorites so you can't omit any one thing. The other problem is that you end up taking a spoonfull of everything just to be polite and it all ends up tasting like a big plate of goop because there are too many flavors. But the leftovers are nice because we can just eat one or two things until they are gone. My relatives are a lot of nationalities, but mostly German and French: two cultures famous for cooking. So they go a little nuts on Thanksgiving. wine

rohaan: Fred Meyer's my favorite "Big" store. They sure seem to have everything.
By the way, it used to be said that "Fred Meyer" was exclusive to Oregon, particularly the Portland area. Now, they are in most towns here, and in other states they are known as "Kroger's", "Smith's", "Fry's", and I just heard there are several other names. Essentially it is the same store (owned by a conglomerate). Does anyone out there know the other names, or all of the Kroger names? Just wondering....

I hope you all take the time to make REAL mashed potatoes instead of that gross instant stuff, it's Thanksgiving afterall.
Home made cranberry relish and mashed Rutabaga was a tradition in my family. I sure miss those big family dinners but life goes on and you make the best of it.

had thanksgiving dinner in Charleston, NC one year and the chef made a dish of mashed potato and sweet potato side by side and then swirled together to look marbled.... it was the most memorable dish - better than the tour of the town. and of course.... that little city is lovely...

I got a frozen turkey breast, It comes in a bag and claims you cook it in it's bag for 2 hours. Sounds easier than cooking a whole bird or fighting an old lady in a grocery store for the last precooked turkey. haha.
