tomcatwarne: As Merri said reverse osmosis can give as much fresh water as you want. The reason 1 billion people in the world don't have fresh wateris not because we don't have enough. The main factor is economic. The reason people thist to death is because they don't have the financial resources to built fresh water machines.

Tomcat... why are we arguing on something that is so basic... everyone knows... or I thought they did... that water access is around building desal plants and reverse osmosis plants.. not that we dont have water in this world.

Its also to do with collecting , storing, and not wasting..

but its all economics..

????????confused

I agree with you, and this method is in use in the States.

Solutions

In order to make any improvements regarding the issue of water scarcity in our world today, more than one solution is necessary. Although water scarcity is not a substantial problem to every country currently, many countries feel the effects of water scarcity and the issue must be addressed. If this issue is not dealt with soon, it will become a problem for many other countries in the near future, some which are already beginning to feel the effects. There are several actions that would be effective in preserving and conserving water.
One possible solution is the use of desalinization technology. This system is described as filtering salty water through membranes and removing the salt through electrodialysis and reverse osmosis. This procedure has worked for about 130 nations in North Africa and the Middle East. With this system, these nations are currently producing six billion gallons of usable water a day (Arrandale, 2002). Also, the United States has a total of about 1,200 desalinating plants, most of which are in modest-sized communities. Recently, however, the desalinization process has become much more practical for metropolitan areas and reverse-osmosis systems have made significant improvements.

Chinese soldiers cut off power and phones, fired tear gas and stun grenades, and beat protesters in a southern village to try to end an 18-day rebellion on Sunday.

Dozens of villagers in Shangpu were admitted to hospital and six people were arrested, according to witnesses on Monday.

RayfromUSA: Like the former east-west cold war, the supposed threat of war between the two parts of Korea is primarily a scam.

In the south it supposedly justifies the US occupation.

In the North it supposedly justifies totalitarian rule.

In both countries it permits the government to make extremely high demands of the people.

Behind the scenes both sides cooperate to maintain the mutually beneficial delusion of imminent war.

You nailed it..

I would like to thank the European and Pacific Rim CSer that have posted here.....specially since Un has only pointed his nuclear tipped missile at the United States, Japan and South Korea.

He is selective in his targetting I guess. It does not really matter....that the UN was in the Korean War and opposite China and NKorea in the conflict......and 32 Countries, including most of Europe and Pacific Rim countries were part of the UN coalition.

But Un has his finger pointed at the US. Now if you believe Dennis Rodman that is not the case. Un is just 'youthful and misunderstood' person. Maybe even with a trouble past (considering the family he comes from). He really does not nuc out a major US city or burn President Obama in flame of NKorean revenge.

Un has not swung his other fingers around to target Australia or Europe so far. But give him time. He is a young man with plenty of ambitions and drive.....and a few nucs hanging around doing little.
Un did trash a 50+ year old cease fire because 3000 American and 6000
South Korean got to together for a some war gaming. You know sleeping in out in the chilly Korea weather. It is like a big camp out with guns.

Un was quick to un limber the NKorea heavy artillery near the contested islands on the west side of the country. He was out pointing a stick to the south telling the local commanders and his troops....."mad dogs live across the border, you have my blessing to destroy them". They popped off a few rounds and made some holes in the water and big splashes. Maybe some waves that hit the contested islands.

Still Rodman says don't sweat Un and NKorea. They are pretty much harmless. Only Nkorea has one of the largest manned Armies in the world
and now.....has ICBMs on mobile launchers. Yep like Russia, Un has placed his ICBMs on trailers and can cart them around with him. This does not phase Dennis. Everyone should have a trailered ICBM in his house.

Rodman tells us that Un and Nkorea is a big basketball country. That the Chicago Bulls are loved there. Funny I never thought Nkoreans, that don't have enough electricity to heat and light their homes would be big on the NBA or American Hoops. But Dennis was there, so he should know. Or maybe he just making that up, being a really big Obama fan from Chicago.

Well I would like to again thank European and Pacific Rim CSers for their continued concern over the developments in North Korea. If Un does decide to flame a US city or fire up President Obama....we will not have to apologize for defending ourselves to the world again.
We can nuc the $%^&^$# out of North Korea.

i think it's funny the way westerners bemoan north korea's human rights abuses while we deliberately starve thousands of them to death with these endless sanctions

who gets to decide that north korea can't have a nuclear program? or that iran can't have one?

the north koreans have different values, but they're no more "crazy" or "dangerous" than anyone else

i say it's time to stop backing them into a corner and use some nixon-style DIPLOMACY for a change

If starvation worried them really we'd see troops with aid, not ships with rockets.

What's the Nixon-style diplomacy?
