Personally I don't start many threads, but of those I have, I can't remember ever hiding anyones comments or banning them. Actually I prefer to let obnoxious individuals expose themselves.

Sometimes egging such an obnoxious poster on until they realize that they were responding to ever increasing levels of sarcasm causing them to wet their trousers in fear of being faced with such superior intellect and constant use of run on sentences can be quite a satisfying method of dealing with dimwitted forum hopping malcontents head banger

2intrigued: You're onto something there Monts I believe that those who have the ability to communicate with all levels of intelligence or lack thereof, without losing their attention or understanding is bound to be respected for that ability. When people lose track of what's being discussed, they tend to lose interest. The trick is having the ability to hold the interest of everyone in your audience so as not to be left standing alone or attracting only those who fully understand you.

jac379: I agree 2I its an amazing skill, but is that a too high an expectation of everyone who contributes to the forums?

Should we even be aiming to hold everyone's attention on the forums?

Hiya Jac wave It may not be possible to hold the attention of everyone on the forums due to the differing languages and culture in the international forums, but I think it's important to aim towards capturing the attention of as many as possible to contribute to a thread. This would then allow for the diversity of opinion in a topic.

i realy enjoy starting a poll or a thread just to see how others relate to my experiences. its like getting statistics from around the world. honestly, i was tempted to delete a couple threads. i prefer to leave all comments as they were. good comments are good. negative ones can also give you information to learn.

Bogart_1960: Not sure if you are trying to look for approvals or justifying the way you respond. But anyway, it does not make a difference.

Neither, I don't think.

The thread started out of curiosity of the guidelines for moderator powers and as to how people perceived the the thread moderator powers should be used. There are obviously differences in opinion.

There is also, however, a part of me which is curious as to whether I'm missing something. I have a concept of what is acceptable and what is not on the forums, but again there are differences of opinion.

I sometimes come across people who I think are obviously Aspergic, or autistic and I can see why some people find them weird, or scary even if I don't. I'm also aware that people sometimes find me weird, or scary. The penny is finally dropping that maybe people look at me and think, "Golly, she's soooo autistic!" but I can't observe myself in the same way I observe others, goddam it. Its so frustrating, it would make life so much simpler. laugh

I'm aware that certain traits of autism don't quite fit in with the accepted social norms and I would like to, not fit in, I don't feel a need to fit in, but just control it better and use 'normality' when I need to so as not to offend others, if that's what I'm doing. Assuming that 'normality' doesn't go against my personal belief systems.

So, I'm not so much justifying myself, although I suppose that's intrinsically linked as I do have feelings, but trying to explain how I see things in the hope that I might gain some understanding of how I tick, or how others tick.

Thank you for that.

Ccincy: While reading a particular thread yesterday I don't recall there being as many comments being hid since the mods gave power to someone who posts threads to either ban or hide posts.Geesh some people need to lighten up some.

I don't understand how hiding someone's post makes any sense cause it's pretty obvious to people here that they can still be read.I can see banning someone who is pressing the limit of misbehaving.I don't see what good it does to hide posts.I feel it just makes a laughing stock of the people who post threads when one chooses to hide posts.

I suppose the unpleasant thing is that its a bit of a trap if people don't realise others can open them, like trial by public humiliation.

I kinda cringe when I see Newbies doing it without realising and like the thumbies that went, I think the hiding posts thing should go as well. It does nothing to improve the quality of the forums, quite the reverse in my opinion.

jac379: I do still find that asking questions appears to make some people very cross. I'm wondering how much this is to do with me being a little on the autistic side and missing some social nicety I should be attending to and how much this is to do with other people being insecure about having to question their own thought processes.

According to Maus its the latter and that makes sense to me, but I'm maybe doubting his opinion because he's almost as much of a spazzer as I am.

It seems my diplomatic approach has been misunderstood.
I don't think it is one or the other.
Telling you where would be a balanced common denominator I can't.

Good point 2I.

I was think to attempt to hold the attention of everyone might be considered attention seeking, but the perspective of making it accessible to everyone is a much healthier one.

Thank you. tip hat

Hey Jac
been through your thread, great! I posted on that thread yesterday and was shocked to see my one was one that was hiddenshock
I enjoy posting on threads at times, especially when ther'es fun banter going on.

I'm know what I posted was down the lines of supporting you.
I said
"I think ther'es a conspiracy happening here Jac
detective

then I inserted a quote from Arthur Conan Doyle
“Skill is fine, and genius is splendid, but the right contacts are more valuable than either.”

Then signed off"Jac is my friend"hug grin

Man! to get banned or hidden on those words, was just beyond me.
Could'nt understand it, it actually freaked me out lol, I know I can be a mad confused poet at times.
But come on!

Oh well that's off my chest.

Might be a good backdrop for my next poem I write grin

Carry on my dear, I think you are such a cool person, I enjoy all your comments, love the tongue in cheek that goes on.
Your wickedly informative too.

I know I would never write anything to hurt or discriminate against anyone.

Thanks for reading as I know you will,
have a cool day Jac, and also to all the coolest people we know here, I'm off out now, so, "in them and at them baby"!
I'll pop back in later.
