AgentAjax: If all of the world spoke the same language?
no just think of all the gifts that language brings to each of us that step outside our own language and learn from another.....
I understand the Inuits (Northern Canada) have 10 or 12 words for the word snow. Some languages are called romance languages because the words and flow incorporate feelings and spiritual understanding into their language.
I read that english is the language most often used when talking about money and commerce.....
Each language is rich in history, tradition, understanding about the world around us and who we are a humans....
All good points, none to disagree with and many made me smile, thank you the comedians
And Conrad for teaching me something new every time I read his comments.
I think language is important – not everything can be interpreted in the same way and hold the same value in words . Like G W Bush said “ stupid French don’t have a word for entrepreneur” that quote still makes me laugh today. As stupid as it sounds he did make a valid point, one word can change the whole dynamics in the interpretations.
IMO- if the world spoke the same language then there would be one less dispute on what was said.

I disagree it never what is said that causes conflict it is how we perceive what has been said.

Well, there was a time in history where this was said to have happened, and mankind began to build something astronomical in proportion, in ambition, and in structure.
Having friends all over the world, who speak various languages, and with technology as it is today, we can speak the same language, even if we don't know the language personally.
Tools such as translators are amazing.
And the more people I know from different places with different customs and different languages, the more I realise that we are all basically the same right now.
We all feel the same things, we all want the same things (generally speaking) and we all bleed the same coloured blood.
Would the world be a better place? Only if we got rid of politicians, dictators, and criminals. Then the world would be a better place....

That kind of depends on which language you are using, English is often very ambiguous and open to misinterpretation, hence why French is the legal language of Europe, as there is little ambiguity and not easy to misunderstand.
