Good question. Probably it would be better, but I'm not sure.
In any case, people won't give up their own languages, since it's a part of their culture.

If we all spoke the same language it would be easier but that doesn't make the world better. World peace would be a good start.

rolling on the floor laughing No...not my idea of better. Better to what argue and disagree more? It is not speaking the language in my opinion that would better the world it is comunication understanding. Look at all that do speak the same language, but without understanding what one another is trying to comunicate. laugh

I though the rest of the world outside of the USA spoke a second language; American English. Which shows what influence we have in the world. banana

There is not that much difficulty in understanding anothers language as we are able to communicate in many ways to get our point across.. What would make the world a better place is less judgement on another be more mindful.. if we speak or don't speak is not the problem it is our actions our ignorance and our self righteous judgement that harms. An experiement was done in Russia they took 5 babies at birth put them in a room to see which language would be the most dominant... the nurse that looked after them was only aloud to feed and change them.... No communication was allowed to influence...... All 5 babies died....... none of them communicated in anyway....... The studies that came after to figure out why all 5 babies died it was because they were not shown any act of kindness no comfort or love........... truly these must be the unspoken language that is needed to make the world a better place.rose

Nations do not need a language, only a few words.

No, I don't think the world would be better, just easier in a sense.

Many countries, for example, have English as a mandatory subject when children are educated, but that does not change their culture, customs, beliefs, religion or history.

And I think that's a good thing.

In my opinion it is more important what we say than what language we use to say it...

All that could be said can not be said in one language.

No and yes. I think half of the destruction in the world is when
you require people to change their culture and identity to fit in.
I often think what if I was forced to speak another language?
I must say it is different for employment which one is in
contact with customers. If it is an English speaking country your front line
staff ought to speak English.

I still do not think speaking one language will make this world a better place.

Like others pointing out before me, it would be easier if there was a "universal" language (English is the language of business around the globe, I think), but if there were no other languages we stand to lose some beautiful expressions from languages such as Latin and Nahuatl (Aztec). I've used both in my poetry in the past and they add different dimensions to the meanings of words.http://www.mexica.net/nahuatl/
