serene56: LOL!!Racking my brain to come up with an idea that will deter the cats but not affect the dog

They're so sneaky, occasionally I catch a glimpse of one coming in so I thought..

Water pistol! Trouble is, they mostly come in when I'm not around grrr

you cut dog size hole in back door and hang rubber flap that the dog can push through

jem1964: when my girl was attacked a couple of years ago I took 50% of the blame because I didnt have her on a lead. She was under control and was actually returning to me after being called back when she was grabbed.

but I was in the wrong so I took my part of the blame.

It is sad to see animals locked in yards, not getting out for walks, just another possession. A great idea at the time to buy a pup etc but the reality is way different from that cute little bundle of fluff.
Because they are locked in yards the animals arent socialised and dont know how to behave, and usually are aggressive as they are unsure of where they stand.

Jem I hope my thread didn't upset you, that was a terrible time for you and Gabby blues

hug

I wholeheartedly agree with you about animals that aren't socialized - I often think that they act out of fear as I feel is the case with this one.

When it came running out at me the first time, it looked as shocked as I felt that it was out on the road?

It reacted by running at me and biting me conversing

And that dog, like many others, is NEVER seen out of the confines of its backyard.

Except when I'm passing by of course lol.

Yes, that would probably help rob but I live in a rental property (and the dog's meant to be outside all the time sshhh lol).

I reckon those cats are so wily they'll probably nick my house key and have copies cut for each of them so they can come in to Café Serene whenever they want mumbling laugh

nup, didnt upset me at all Serene hug

just the difference between responsible animal owners and those who arent.

The dog that attacked Gabby wasnt socialised well, they knew it attacked cats and possums and had actually told me that it killed cats and possums in their backyard frequently.

I just hope that the dog that is annoying you doesnt attack you or your boy again. Make sure you report it, and if you can get evidence of its behaviour. You gave the owner a chance, he threw it away

You should also take responsibility and report it before it bites you again or someone else, a child maybe.

Called the council this morning, they took all the details and the ranger called me back at lunchtime thumbs up

They are taking it very seriously, and said there are two paths they can take.

One is to simply speak with the owner and let him know they have received a complaint and that he must keep the dog off the street.

The second is one that requires me to make a statement which the owner will be informed of, he has 7 days to comply with orders given to him by the ranger and if he doesn't, he will immediately receive a $250 fine.

Should he still not comply the fines will increase, the dog's microchip will contain permanent information about these attacks and it will be on a 6 month good behavior bond with any violations incurring large fines.

The ranger said that should the owner want to contest any of this I would need to be prepared to go to court and make a statement. I have no problem with this as I've played nice and he hasn't taken any measures to resolve the issue.

I made the decision to prepare the statement, faxed it off and hope for a good result.

The ranger was very helpful, supportive and professional; she said not to hesitate to call if there are any further problems in the meantime thumbs up
