But the God of religion is nothing but a vicious lie creating and playing on man's deepest fears. At least atheists don't do that or have all these outrageous claims of religion, such as eternal damnation, having to be saved, immaculate conception of a Godman, resurrection from the dead,, having to sacrifice oneself for a better life after death,, branding God a homophobe, turning water into wine and wine into blood and having people drink blood, turning a peace of bread into flesh and having people eat it,, and on and on,,, wake up folks, these claims just ain't true...

Hmmm... where do I start?

"63 scientific studies from 1928 to 2012" ??? Do the dates catch anyone by surprise? Of course not. Normally the more intelligent people continue some form of higher learning. And what are they teaching at most of our institutions of higher learning? Well lets just say they aren't hitting on the high points of the positive influences of living a life holy and dedicated to the Lord.

So why else would these studies show the results they do? A religious young person goes to college and is told over and over again, by their professors, counselors, and peers that the religion of their parents is rubbish. Are we at all surprised by the way they leave the faith of their childhood? I'm not.

I wonder what the same study would show if it were conducted during the 1700's, where most of the colleges and universities were seminaries. Or what about before the 1700's when most all of the great scientific finds were being achieved by men like Sir Issac Newton (previously mentioned), or Linnaeus, the great Swedish botanist and his predecessor John Ray, Kepler, Galileo, Bacon, Pascal, and Leibnitz. In 1831, when Darwin was a backslidden, twenty-two year old ministerial student starting out his five-year voyage on the "Beagle," Michael Faraday, then 40, began a series of experiments that demonstrated the principle of electromagnetic induction. "Very few men," said Sir William Bragg, "have changed the face of the world as Faraday has done. Significantly, the principal men to follow him in constructing the electrical age all owned the same Christ as their Lord - Lord Kelvin (William Thompson), James Clerk Maxwell, and Sir John Ambrose Fleming. The Absolute Temperature Scale still bears Lord Kelvin 's name, but other exploits in his day, like the submarine cable, revolutionary ships compass and 69 other patented brainwaves, made him a household word.

It would seem the on thing that has escaped this study's attention is what has been taught in schools since 1928. Is it any coincident this study started just a few years after the famous Scopes Trial? It seems ironic that the very tooth used to bring evolution into this nation's public school system, this "Nebraska man's" tooth, was later proved to be just a pig's tooth.

Well, so much for intelligence.

I don’t know!!! Who is richer the pope or a scientist? Religious people are way more smarter at exploiting people for cash without being charged with a criminal offence. grin

Maybe it's simply that we are able to consider the alternatives instead of having blind, dogmatic faith in something which has no proven existence.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the pope and the leaders of religion don't believe a bit of what they're preaching,,

This is just disenchantment with the lies and fallacies inherent in religion Mike. There is just as much if not more of an inward turn toward spirituality in humanity now as there has ever been, it's just not centered on religious dominance and ownership of a god anymore, much less their dogmatic teachings.

I suppose this proves that at the height of religious dominance in the world, the results will prove that if you kill off enough atheists/presumed witches and anyone not of your faith, you can provide a study that shows only religious people are intelligent ... umm because they're all that were allowed to live. I doubt killing your enemies and the faithless can be construed as intelligent beyond the drive for dominance.

Correlation is not corroboration. thumbs up

And the bible has been proven to be expropriated from previous religions, edited, devoid of proof and falsely attributed to non existent authors, not to mention nauseating, so what's your point? Neither the pig nor the pig's assailant wins in my opinion.

To your point, I no more believe in the theory of evolution than I do in religious ownership of gods; but the universe, or at least earth has chosen to have these specious arguments and both parties with little real knowledge.

Spiritualism at least allows for expanding beyond the scope of blindly accepted knowledge whether its from books or teeth, and into the realm of awareness and wisdom.

Frankly I think this better for the species but I'm ok with some hanging on to what they know/accept, especially if it gives them comfort.

Was the pig flying? laugh

The challenge with answering the question (cs or in general) is that it may require some intelligence and in my opinion the litmus test for intelligence is that the answer would be inarguable, infallible, presuming of course that intelligence is as smart as it gets.

How the hell do we get there? dunno laugh

Not true at all. Highly intelligent men and women have disagreed and argued for centuries about certain things. The only inarguable topics are those that have man made rules, such as grammar for example, which I work with. However, even with grammar, there are still exceptions and loose interpretations which often apply and are accepted.
