NotABlonde: It also depends if you care where your eggs and meat come from, how they are farmed and how the animals are treated.

Personally I'd rather pay more and avoid caged eggs, or do without.

Now this is where I have an issue ...... about eggs.

Ex #1 was involved at a high level within the egg business while we were still together. Being the "I should listen to she who should be obeyed" type of guy, I did half listen to her.

I did lisen to a lot of hype coming from the egg producers about their products. Everyone has their own idea of what an egg should look like. Everyone has their own ideas. So the producers have looked at what everyones expectations are and try to devlope a yolk colour that is most acceptable. And some want only white shells while others want brown shells. So they have tried to hit for what "most" people want.

Media has hit at the "battery hens" producing our eggs just living in a litle cage. They are unable to see the real sunlight, just rely on the artificial light provided.

Has anyone ever looked at the difference in the salmanila count (not spelt right but hope you can look it up) in eggs between battery hens and free range hens?

Thought not.

Has anyone really looked at what is happening to asparagus plants over the years. They start to grow and their heads are lopped off (blame the French for this idea). This has been happening in some areas for hundreds of years on the same plants.

Where are the Anti-asparagus lopping lobbyists? Probably enjoying their frre range eggs

Time to boycott eggs and asparagus
thumbs up

even with wild meat I doubt if you could feed growing boys and two adults on $ 50 a week , part of feeding kids is keeping them interested in their food . One of my boys was a celiac with an anaphylaxis allergy to nut products . If the food did not grow ,run ,wriggle or was once maize or flow from (milk) we did not eat it . Cheap but their are still school lunches . Just not done sending kids to school with a back leg of a pig and a tin of salt .

That was the issue , my eldest could have nothing with wheat flower ,or any other forms of gluten in his food or deep fried in the same cooking oil as food with wheat flower had been cooked (batter) . It is a life time problem for him . There is a bit of a fad in NZ with the faddy ones going on gluten free diets however for Ken he was diagnosed by a biopsy . Having a tube passed down his throat into his stomach . It was a very limited diet back then as the supermarkets held little gluten free food .
And a little note for any other celiac's ,apples have gluten in them .

I do have issues with peoples "likes and dislikes for food."

I do have issues about certain foods. I am unable to eat chicken as it does have a severe gastric rejections problem with me and do not like fish. So I am cautious in what I eat.

I do not enjoy 'orange' food. Hate pumpkin but love carrots, as long as they are not cooked. Or just a little bit heated. Yes, I do eat cooked sweet potato.

My daughter went to a witchdoctor (healthy eating practioner, nutritionist, etc) to look at some of her health issues. Okay, she has dairy and wheat (glutten) problems. She has managed to overcome her 'problems' to a certain extent by limiting her intake of the things she enjoys.

I was diagnosed as having a "dairy intolerence" in the mid-70s. I made the choice between the soy products and having dairy prduce so I could have the simple pleasure of having real milk and cheese. Although I have decreased my dairy intake over the years.

I have a sister-in-law who was advised to cut out her salt intake. She reacts to everything that is salty because she tastes it and "has to have a reaction."

Sounds like your sis inlaw just likes attention . We nearly lost my son as he went into anaphylactic shock . He had to carry an ana kit when he was little and not always eating his own food . He got a bee sting at school and the teacher gave him a jab for that just in case . With a ride to town as well for afternoon schooling .

There's gluten in so many products that you just wouldn't think about, but you don't always have to shop on the gluten free aisle...I'm sure they think as soon as they put something in those shelves they have the right to triple the price. I was $8 for four breadrolls at Coles on Sunday.

A lot of people don't think twice about making gluten free dishes using the same utensils. Especially something as simple as a toaster. I know I didn't before I was diagnosed with the gene.

Because of the cost and distance from town I bought corn thins for my son rather than bread . Same texture and taste as cardboard and a tendency to catch fire when toasted on the wood stove . Quite good in away as they keep months unopened . I grudgingly eat them when out of bread . The boys pet billy goat just loves them .
