From the Anthropology bits and pieces that I've read, the Asiatic appearance of native North Americans and South Americans is due to a common ancestory brought about by the human migration of peoples from North Asia across what was then a land bridge over what is now the Bering straits. As time passed these people and their offspring gradually spread out across both North and South America. This of course was well before the time of Ghengis Khan. There has been some suggestion that human migration to Central and South America may also have occurred as a result of maritime migration from ancient Japan. Whatever the route, it seems that the forebears of the native Americans were Asian.
