Obscuritan: Crikey you've learned a lot about photography in a short time Merri. "ISO noise".... Care to explain wot that is?
I'm just checking out my glass of port for clarity, composition and yes, even lighting comes into the enjoyment equation.

wink Yep... I certainly have been reading and practising.

and I don't do things by halves... laugh

but the truth is also... I am really enjoying it... and getting to know other photographers.. so its a really nice experiencegrin

Merriweather: I guess Mr Lookin... what is happening here... is that Robp and I have different brand cameras, very similar though, in many respects, and I just check out his shots for clarity, lighting, and composition... and I am guessing he does same same...

Its interesting to see what cameras will do..

my friend bought a relatively good new Nikon and I saw his shots this arvo... brilliant , that little new Nikon has no ISO noise.. what a little beautie..

It took a while but i'm getting into the bird thing now, a lot of great pics. It makes a big difference when the pics are clear.

I love the lamb and the magpie in post #640 ... I'm imagining what's going through the lambs mind, as the magpie struts around in front of it wiggling it's tail feathers laugh

i'm shooting in a .jpg.jpg (double jpg something) which produces a 2.7 mb file; that's what then been compressed and converted to a .jpg, the 200 or 250 kb file exported from the .jpg.jpg format has over 2mb in each compressed down to 223kb, 176kb and 205kb following three .jpg image files while the amount of crop explains the different file size
So no i am not shooting actually in RAW (takes to long for the camera to process a shot in RAW however the format I'm using is akin to something Olympus now does in-between jpg and Olympus ORF Raw format.

think you miss understood, i am shooting in .jpg.jpg which is not the same as .jpg I don't have a full grip of the format settings but appears to me the current camera settings are producing a jpg jpg image of around 2.7 mb

extract from manual

This format (extension “.ORF”) stores unprocessed image data for later processing. RAW
image data cannot be viewed using other cameras or software, and RAW images cannot
be selected for printing. JPEG copies of RAW images can be created using this camera.

Recording may take some time. In addition, when the image quality mode is , the image is recorded in RAW+JPEG.

Choose from RAW and JPEG (YF, YN, XN, and WN) modes. Choose a RAW+JPEG option
to record both a RAW and a JPEG image with each shot. JPEG modes combine image size (Y, X, and W) and compression ratio (SF, F, N, and B).

not surprised that somebody misunderstands all that , these cameras are not user friendly . Don't know how the sheep and cattle living with those dogs react when given hay that the dogs have been sitting on but my bulls took to the hay when they smelt the dogs after rushing to the hay expecting a meal . Funny to watch ,wouldn't want to be the hay though .
