Evacuated Friday morning as fire burned mountains behind my home and grew to double the size in a few hours.
Wind change later that day sent it heading straight for Halls Gap and luckily it diverted again but was only a kilometre from town centre.
Allowed home today..immediate threat has passed for now but a lot of back burning going on and the mountains are still smouldering which could flare up with high winds later.
Halls Gap on a watch and act warning and town meeting at 6pm tonight.
One life lost and a few houses and properties burnt down but everyone safe for now.
Thanks to everyone who sent messages of love and support.
Please send prayers to all who have been affected and our amazing firefighters who have saved our little town once again.teddybear

A few years when there were fires there, the cops stopped people going back into the area as "the risk to human life was too great." Turned out that property and livestock could have been saved if they had been allowed back in. An Govt Inquiry supported this.

Next time a big fire went through, the cops were told to let property owners back in after being told the risks. A few lives were lost.

On Thursday (I think it was) a convoy of 30 police vehicles (more than 100 cops) from Melb went there to ensure that the evacuation was done and that people did not return or the looters go in.

The firefighters can only do so much to protect property - they do risk their lives every time they go out.

Town meeting confirmed fire still out of control and in the northern area of Halls Gap.Containment lines being put in place to try and get some kind of control before big wind change in a few days.
Still a watch and act warning in place and ive just heard the Black Ranges have flared up again near Stawell where we were evacuated to on Friday.
Will keep you informed as we get updated. Thanks everyone for your lovely messages.
My thoughts are with our firefighters battling this terrible blaze. You guys are amazing...stay safe.teddybear

They wouldn't be able to stop me, I would go around them on foot if I had to,,the authorities don't run my life. I think if you live there you should be able to go back in to try and save your own animals and property.
The nanny state is becomming rediculous in the extreme!

Must be great living in an area where totally out of control bushfires don't occur.

Got a mate living between the Black Ranges and the Grampians. Has to be the driest spot in that area.
