Religion Everywhere... Is It Too Much? ( Archived) (60)

First off I encourage anyone to believe what they choose, be it in God, Allah, Buddha or nothing for that matter. I see all these pages on here "Must be God Fearing" "Praise God" "Must Love God"... God This, God that. So the questions are, Are you drawn to or pushed away by a person whom has "God or Religion" demands in their profile? Do you feel like interaction with these people would be a waste of time because you might not or do not believe what they believe?

There are less strings attached to that. Allah, is the same God of
Abraham, just a different name.wink

There is a section called 'My match info' where you state what you looking for in a partner and you don't have to make contact with anybody you dont wish to.professor

hello larry...

I know I can contact whom I wish. I was just curious how others felt about religious things in peoples pages or if that part even matters.

thanks pedal

No strings?? interesting way to put it. I have strings to what I believe but I don't want my strings to tangled up in someone elses beliefs or push my stuff on them.

Hi F&S wave talking about god puts me off someone.

I do believe in having things in common, religion is something private for me I wouldn't put on my profile. If someone feels the need to talk about it in their profile text, I don't think we would be a match.

I kinda feel the same way. I think it should be discussed in the right time but as well I think two people can believe different and still get along

I agree, as long as you have a similar view in life and get on it shouldn't make a difference.

I am not religious so if there is any God or religion demands on the profile I won't be interested at all. Race and religion are complications in relationships that I try to avoid by all means.

It would put me totally off.

I need to know that a person's morals, beliefs and ideals come from within, not from a book.

I am distanced by it. Not because of the spiritual conviction, which I happen to respect for everyone, but the 'demands' as you say. One of the worst problems with 'religion' is an expectation that another must embrace the same spirituality as you do--an unreasonable and rather moronic request. (Because we are all different for a reason).

It's a good question. Fundamentalism, literalism, or something like that would be a turn-off. Also, if a person's religion was most of their life, that would be a turn-off. I probably wouldn't respond well if I was expected to adopt some belief system, but otherwise, there's a type of person that is "religious but not spiritual," actually, and they tend to "go through the motions" with their faith or observe it out of routine. There is also the "spiritual but not religious," and neither one would bother me just so I wasn't expected to adopt it.

Most people sadly confuse faith with morals or a moral center, which is one of the reasons why some folks have religious tests, I think. Faith and a moral center are decidedly not dependent upon each other. That, or some folks use religion as a means to keep themselves together, so they really would want it in another person.

Granted, I'd prefer a non-believer because I've worked through those matters, but a person talking about God would not be a deal-ender for me, and the whole matter is really only one issue. I look at people holistically.

I can understand that. I personally have no issues with dating a person who has belief in one faith or another. I think I would only have an issue with it if they started trying to shove their beliefs down my throat. If we can respect each others children and we can respect each others families, why is it people cant respect each others faith or lack of?
