So this guy Mohammad Iqbal was married to Ayesha Bibi but wanted to marry 25-year-old Farzana Parveen. In order to marry Farzana, he had to get his wife out of the picture so naturally he killed her. He then proceeded to marry Farzana and made her pregnant. Farzana's parents wanted her to marry her cousin instead so as she was on her way to testify on behalf of Iqbal in the murder case of his first wife, she was beaten to death by her family with a brick. Subsequently the murder case was later withdrawn after a family member forgave Iqbal, probably because he gave them "blood money" (usually about equal to $1,000) So, Here he is, all alone because he killed his first wife and his second wife was killed by her family (because she shamed them by not marrying her cousin). I guess this jerk never heard the expression "A bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush." Oh well, maybe he's got a sister.

I can only imagine that he wasn't rich enough to take the second one as a wife and even if he was, that the first wife didn't consent (who knows what their marriage contract said). This crap happens all too often in places closer than Pakistan. I just read something about hundreds of these cases happening in Turkey every year. People are crazy.

For me, apart from the Barbaric Cruelty, [by her own siblings , 2 of her brothers have bravely run away !.. and her parents ] its the fact that on the different stations, it showed very graphic photos... the woman who was stoned to death being put on the ground. A police Van was nearby and nothing was done... the people were watching, spectator sport. These people are supposed to be God fearing. Nowhere in the Q uran does it say this is to be done. The Q uran reveres Jesus who said 'He who is without sin ,cast the first stone. I am not bringing Religion into this... but there is a terrible pack mentality and some misguided belief that burgeoning their offspring to death is superior than the immorality of marrying her Cousin. I cannot get my head around this? I wonder will the new leader do anything or is it window Dressing ? Either way, I feel lucky not to be in that country with all the Rapes, some of Visitors.

Just my reading of history and the rise of civilizations - when women get out into the workforce, are allowed to vote and have a say in things, have a voice, get an education, the society becomes better for it. It doesn't look like that in the beginning but it really is a blessing when everyone in a community have input into making the society strong.

Women have the right to vote and many women are working in labour and in offices here.Problem is that we need an honest leader to handle this country

This "Eye for an eye" doctrin doesn't make any sense. If a man is caught stealing the last thing you should do is cut off his hands because then all you have done is create a man who can do no work to pay back the cost of what he stole and you add one more mouth to feed who can't contribute to society. It's what always happens when a government is controlled or influenced by the church.

In Pakistan justice system there is no law to cut the hands of criminals. What ever the police done its there own act.A case have been registerd against the police and an officer is under arrest
The plot thickens uesday of 25-year-old Farzana Parveen, who was bludgeoned to death with bricks by her family after she eloped with Mohammad Iqbal instead of marrying a cousin as her family demanded.
Punjab's Deputy Inspector General for Police Zulfiqar Hameed tells The Associated Press that Iqbal was arrested in 2009 for killing his first wife, Ayesha Bibi, but that the case was later withdrawn after a family member forgave the culprit.
Think the foregiving family member was his son...
The marriage enraged her family, Iqbal said, and they demanded he pay them 100,000 rupees (about $1,000) to let the couple stay alive."
In a report last month, it said 869 women had been the victims of honor killings in 2013.
Pakistan 'honour killing' inquiry exonerates police Senior officer angered by claims police stood by and did nothing, and says case is no more serious than any other murder
"Getting married for a second time was both illegal and immoral," Hameed said.
Iqbal claims Parveen's father supported his marriage to Parveen, only later changing his mind when he demanded more money than had originally been agreed.
Tahir Ashrafi, a high profile mullah known for his unusual liberal stance on many issues.
On Friday he circulated a "fatwa" declaring "the killing of girls in the name of honour or dignity is terrorism and viciousness – which has nothing to do with Islam".
walking towards the Lahore courthouse on one of the city’s busiest streets, her brother fired a shot at her. Having missed, he then smashed her head with a brick. As she lay wounded, the rest of her family bludgeoned her to death,
Farzana Parveen’s life was taken because she married a man of her own choosing, rather than the cousin selected by family elders.
In a dark twist, Iqbal has also admitted that he had killed his first wife in a dispute over Farzana in 2009.
Khalida Bibi said she had spent 13 days with Farzana in a women’s shelter last month where she said she was hiding from Iqbal.
“She told me that Iqbal had kidnapped her and forced her into marriage,” she said. “She feared that Iqbal might kill her like his previous wife, Ayesha.”
