Younger people(particularly today's younger people)have less money than our elders, and when I have more means than the girl I'm with then I'll be more willing to put my hand in my pocket. This is the less selfish way of looking at it.
The other way is that he might be a toyboy and she's buying his affection. If she fears people thinking this, then it reflects upon her.

Well, for me, I always offer to pay half. Some refuse and some agree. I don't mind helping pay the bill.

I do, when I feel the other party does not move quick enough. I like to keep my bills paid. The point being, not always , especially with a three hundred dollar bottle of wine, plus a great dinner, dessert. I just like to relax and enjoy the view. If I was a man, I would not give a lady a chance to pick it up. Just sayin. PEACE
