Kaci Hickox carried through today on her threat to violate her quarantine after stating that since she does not have Ebola imposing a quarantine on her violates her Constitutional Rights. Accompanied by her boyfriend she left her home and hopped on a bicycle and drove through a mob of reporters and disappeared for about 45 minutes before returning. She was not arrested because her stay inside your home quarantine was only a request from Maine's Board of Health and not the result of a court order. Shortly afterwards her attorney attempted without success to arrive at a compromise position with the Office of Maine's Governor. Later Maine's Governor announced he will use the full weight of his office to make the quarantine happen. Lawyers from both sides are lining up their arguments.
Kaci had initially been forcibly quarantined in a tent outside a New Jersey hospital when an airport employee thought his scanner showed her with a high temperature after arriving in the US from West Africa. Hospital employees did not find a high temperature and declared she did not have Ebola, but under orders from the NJ's Governor she was ordered detained in a tent anyway. Later, under media pressure New Jersey approved her returning home to Maine where that state's Board of Health requested she self quarantine herself inside her house until 21 days are up. A pair of Maine State troopers had been assigned to watch her house and their car followed her bike during her excursion today and when she returned. As Maine did not (yet) obtain a court order for the quarantine, technically Kaci has not broken any laws yet.
