Even the Christmas-Tree isn't Christian,but Pagan!

According to the Encyclopædia Britannica, "The use of evergreen trees, wreaths, and garlands to symbolize eternal life was a custom of the ancient Egyptians, Chinese, and Hebrews. Tree worship was common among the pagan Europeans and survived their conversion to Christianity in the Scandinavian customs of decorating the house and barn with evergreens at the New Year to scare away the devil and of setting up a tree for the birds during Christmastime."

secretagent09: Even Jewish people have a Christmas tree and they exchange presents for Chanukah and Christmas. People like presents. It has nothing to do with religion but everything to do with the big fat guy in the red suit

People use this ancient celebration to enjoy life with family and friends, with a feeling of goodwill to all men and women.

Whether Christian, pre-Christian, agnostic, atheist, pagan or any world religion, anything thst promoted peace and goodwill can only be a good thing! dancingsanta

Some people claimed atheist.. Why then a Christmas tree
at their home???
It looks a bit hypocritical, don't you think???

I'm not Christian, but I did a scaled down sort of Christmas for my daughter when she was small so she didn't feel left out.

I thought the tree thing originally came from a Pagan festival. Does that mean all the Christians are hypocrites? confused

Why are you concerned about what other people choose to believe, or choose to do with a twig and a couple of fairy lights, anyway? dunno

JeanKimberley: I read that Santa was actually a real person (can't remember the country of origin - Dutch maybe?) named Nicolas, perhaps sainted to Saint Nicolas. The tradition for the folk to leave their shoes outside their homes at the doorstep - wooden shoes? and he would put money and stuff into those of the poor while they slept at night. So when they awoke in the morning and put on their clogs, they would find the money.

the tradition grew from their, where people acted like St. Nick.

Spanish, not Dutch.

Not Spain

The tradition of Santa is only barely coming into Spain now.

They traditionally get their gifts from the Three Wise Men on Jan 06th

I once told a group of school kids on a trip to a grotto in a coal mine (right, I know) that if he didn't have a German accent, he was an imposter. It turns out, he had a broad Valleys accent. blushing

When I told my (German) mum of my faux pas, she said he was a Spanish saint originally.

I've just Wiki'd and apparently he was Greek, from an area which is now Turkey. I bet Chris is pleased about that. laugh

Yeah, my mum told me the same, although I don't think it ever happened even in her sometimes brutal family, or village.

I think it was one of those threats like 'if you don't behave Santa won't bring you any presents' people dish out to their kids now.

Christmas tree represents a Christian invasion into Secular and non Christian lands. It's the best thing Christians can do for those savages. They being converted gradually. devil

It's my choice, just as celebrating, or not celebrating is other people's choice. It's got nothing to do with right, or wrong.
