I have met more people(men and women)because of Jacko than I would have without him.He has been my best friend for 6yrs.There may well be women that would not have anything to do with a dog but I would not enter relationship with a woman no matter what her reason is. Of course any lady that I would meet would know about my boy from the onset.wave

I also think if your dog is more important than your dream man/woman then it is better for that person to move on. Never loved a dog that much so maybe I am a bad person. dunno

I probably should get a dog but it would have to be a standard poodle.

When you let a dog into your life, you make a commitment.

I'm not sure I like the idea of being asked to break my commitments, or asking anyone else to. I wonder how that might impact upon a relationship.

It might be different if I was too ill, or incapable in some other way of looking after the dog, or the dog lived with another family member, like my daughter where there was equal attachment.

Not that I have a dog anymore. blues

stanley8m: You can't really compare a domesticated species of Indian wild fowl used for egg and meat production, with a family pet.
The human relationship with a dog and chicken is vastly different in terms of interaction, bonding and attachment.

stanley8m: You meet the man/woman of your dreams, and everything is perfect, except she doesn't like your dog.

If she/he gave the ultimatum, either the dog goes or me, would you give up your relationship for your dog?

What if the love of your life is allergic to dogs or any other hair animals (with the exception of menlaugh )?

There is a place and time for everything; a considerate & loving relationship will know how and when to maneuver the household pets...

JeanKimberley: I often do put the value of animals above some humans - we are of course talking about choosing who we share our home with.....

I would think that if my dog didn't like the guy, then trust my dog's instincts and get rid of the guy.

A dogs or cats or other pets are not our children - they are animals -

Also a little side note - about the whole a dog doesn't lay eggs so what good is he? Question: Just what is a man good for, if I can earn my own living, take home the bacon and fry it up too, I have my own little bedside accessories - so what function would a man perform? Perhaps I need to get a chicken...

secretagent09: Actually, dogs are much more useful then even being pet. A dog has unconditional love for the person who feeds him, pats his head and takes him for a walk. That's all he wants from his handler. Do that for him and he will be waiting at the door when his handler comes home from work.

Dogs hold a much greater place in the world:

They are used in Afghanistan to sniff out bombs

People who are blind are blessed with a dog to help them walk streets with traffic, to help them get around their own home

Therapy dogs are taken to hospitals for the elderly and hospitals for children with terminal illnesses

K9 dogs are trained to sniff out the drugs and weapons in airports so you don't blow up when you are on the plane

Dogs were very helpful on Sept. 11th to look for people buried in the rumble

I'd say, no matter how much one loves his partner or his kids, the dog will always love you more

Absolutely thumbs up Dogs are truly special. I worked in healthcare and saw firsthand the therapeutic benefits of visiting dogs and we even had a resident cat that the patients loved. I love animals so if someone wants to be part of my life, my pets are part of the package deal. conversing

wave And they are also protective of their owner as well as the children that they have grown up with. I have seen dogs try to and have saved the children from being harmed. I watched a video on Youtube once, "Amazing Animals". A dog dragged the child away from being stung by a swarm of bees. It was adorable! They will alert when there is trouble too.
