Kaybee50: I must admit that I do some of these as well.
I am on a very tight budget.
Entertainment and fun things are not things I can afford at the moment.
So if I do go out, it has to been where the event costs nothing.
I also order only water, but make sure to have enough to tip the server.
If I do go out to dinner, it must be to a low cost establishment and I always take half home to make sure I can make another meal of it.
If I go to a place that has a cover charge, I arrive earlier to avoid the cover fee. I tell my friends I am there to save them a good place.
It makes dating tricky because finances are quite private at the beginning of a relationship and not something I'm comfortable bringing up right away.
For Christms and birthday, if someone asks me what I would like, I usually opt for a gift to the cinema or particular restaurants. Then if I am asked by a date where I wish to go, I would suggest the place I have the giftcard. And I treat my date to a movie out, since I have received a free giftcard as a gift.

pedalguy59: I am very frugal, I could not find any super deals this year on
Boxing week sales, so I went to Value Village and found some nice
stuff real cheap, and not afraid to admit it.

JeanKimberley: I remember hearing a story about a woman who would go out to bar/pub/restaurants flirt with the single men there, find one who paid for dinner.... and then say they were going to the ladies room and sneak out the back door.....

now that is mean!

I have'nt had one sneak out yet laugh but one of many reasons why i don't date anymore (only have meets).. After the meal and night out a some say that we don't match (for whatever reason). We have laughs and kick it off great during the night party

Then she blows me off in my car and i never hear from her again blues

I just would one day like to find someone that does'nt just want a blow and go moping super

that`s not mean that`s sensible living to your budget lips

mean is if you have money but expect other people to treat you while never thinking of them
dunno

however my father had enough money to live well in his later years but I had to force him to buy things ad he would always try to make do

in earlier years we were very poor and sometimes went hungry dad could not forget those years enough to enjoy what he had he was always worried about having nothing again
loved him to bits and still miss him

If I meet someone I don't know very well and don't know if I want to see again, I would want to pay my share of the meal (regardless if he invited me or not). conversing Everything else wouldn't be fair and there are people who think you "owe" them something if they buy you a drink or a meal. doh

I learned it the hard way skippy.

When I was younger and knew guys socially through friends, it was never an issue. dunno I basically knew beforehand that I wanted to get to know them and see them again and we did a lot of things together like food, movies etc. and I can't remember this ever being an issue.

It's different now if you meet up with someone you don't know. So, you meet someone and don't want to see him again. conversing Is it fair to let him pay?

I also had it that guys want to buy you drinks to get you drunk and "expect" a return - I don't drink a lot and if someone get me a drink, I'll buy him one in return.

I think a bit of caution and fairness with someone you don't know is just reasonable, but it's different if you know someone a bit better and actually start spending time with him. wave bouquet

These women must be desperate for male companionship and have very low self esteem or they could visually see what this man has and what he is. I'll never pay for a man to take me out. I'd rather pay for a woman's company any day as men are too agressive in what they want and most older men don't know the first thing about a relationship anyway.

I know people who can't be nice if they tried. They can say the most hurtful things and not too many people want to be around these women. Think they are unhappy but they try to make everyone else like them. Run for the hills when you see either one of these women. One is married though and bet she doesn't pull that crap on him.

2intrigued: My adoptive father used to hang squares of newspaper on a coat hanger beside the toilet instead of toilet paper to save money through necessity as times were poor when I was a child. I imagine some people are frugal due to circumstances and for some, it's a psychological matter possibly associated with upbringing or life experiences.

Hi 2Intrigued.. I think you have it correct..

My mother in law, who lived in country Australia, where there is water shortage always, put ever so little water in the kitchen sink when she had to wash up... the result of course, is the plates and all the dishes in general came out with a rather greasy feel..

and she continued to do this, when she came to the city to live.. I guess for her, old habits die hard... as she sure never needed to scrimp on water in the city..

Never mind, that was a long time ago... wave
