Is it easy enough to know which state/city people are from in the US, based on their accent?

yes and no. If you live the states you can usually have an idea of where someone is from.

but people move around a lot too. So a New Yorker might be living in Miami, or a southerner could be living in California so their accent might not match their location

Ocee sounds just like Michigan. you can tell Ima Yank by mine. But sometimes I slip into a more Midwestern accent when I am relaxed or in a hurry. But it is more Kentucky than Michigan because I have lived in SW Ohio for 30 years....dunno :)

Here, even though it is a dot of a country compared to the US, each of the counties (32) have distinct accents. And some are more distinct than others. Cork for example laugh
One could also tell a city from a non-city accent within these counties.
Basically, we have lots of accents!

so do we but some sound a lot alike and you almost have to be from there to tell the difference between, Tennessee and S. Carolina, or West Virginia , for example.

I love the Irish accents I have heard but wouldn't really know how to tell where fromdunno

Therapy would be great. Either that, or a pastrami on rye.
