In general terms, women want what their friends have. they want to compare males and come out having hooked the better catch.
Being it the sleeker car, the richer parents, the higher job, the best groomed, or the biggest drinker, loudest yeller.
It is sometimes also therefore they hide flaws, like violence and drinking.
And their upbringing also plays a part of setting standards and what is known territory.
