I've read a lot of derogatory comments about Democrats on this site including a lot of hateful name calling like Libtard, Libturd and Demonrat as well as calling the former president Obozo and Odumbo not to mention Mrs. Clinton, "Killery". Once you start name calling, all hope of having any intelligent discussion goes right out the window. This is a very childish practice and serves no useful purpose besides making the person making the slur feel clever. Whereas it makes the person look like a bully to be avoided. What kind of an impression do you think people outside the US get when they read such trash talk? I have no doubt they think we're all very low class, uneducated and juvenile. It's kind of ironic too because Republicans really don't have such a great history having done some incredibly mindless and damaging things to the health and welfare of the American people and the overall economy.

While Republicans didn't exactly *create* the great depression, Republican Senators Smoot and Hawley with their protectionist tariff act, unquestionably exacerbated what would probably been little more than a slight recession or "Correction" in the stock market and instead created an epic global depression. Republican Herbert Hoover was president at the time and the Republican motto of "laissez faire" translation; "A policy or attitude of letting things take their own course, without interfering." This meant that Hoover could just sit in the White House on his hands and not lift a finger to try to fix this major problem in fact it was the Republican credo to do nothing, so Hoover just stood by and let the world economy collapse. Why, they even named homeless camps "Hoovervilles" after him.

It took a Democratic president, FDR, to address the myriad of problems to fix it. FDR created more programs to help the people than any 5 Republican presidents you can name and most of those programs are still in effect today like Social Security and the FDIC which insures your savings acct if the bank goes belly up. And FDR was a cripple! FDR spoke directly to the people through radio broadcasts not 140 character "Tweets" that the average citizen doesn't even read.

A while back I asked a question; "Who was the last good Republican president?
I'm still waiting for an answer. Somebody said Abraham Lincoln. How sad is that?

Let's look at more recent Republican presidents Like George Bush. I purposely avoided Richard Nixon because it would be like taking candy from a baby. One could lay the current Opioid epidemic right at the feet of George Bush. He missed the chance to prevent it by taking his eye off the ball when we were in total control of Afghanistan in 2001, and had the once in a lifetime opportunity to literally wipe out the entire Opium culture and shift the Afghan farmers over to growing food, instead he got greedy and cared more about his oil interests and decided to invade Iraq resulting in 1000's of lost lives. In case you haven't heard, Afghanistan just produced an 87% increase in Opium production last year.

Republicans hate debt but create more debt by giving big tax cuts to the rich. Don't they understand that in order to pay down the National debt, the Gov needs to bring in more revenue? There aren't too many ways to do that and taxation is the major source of revenue for a Government.

with a record like that I don't understand what makes Republicans so damn proud.

BTW did you notice? Not once did I resort to hateful name calling.

Isn't it about time to stop this tribal, US vs THEM mentality and start behaving like grown up Americans who want only what's best for our beautiful country? Stop putting party first and America second. Trump spouts America first all the time while in reality he is a 100% Republican party first and America second. He even admitted it in a raucous campaign rally in the Florida panhandle, near the state line with Alabama. “We cannot afford, the future of this country cannot afford to lose the seat,” Trump said, referring to his party’s razor-thin 52-48 advantage in that chamber of Congress.
Did you happen to notice the repetition Conspeak in that sentence? (“We cannot afford, the future of this country cannot afford)

Nobody has the time to listen to fireside chats anymore like FDR's , twitter carries a lot more than 140 characters now . Not to mention video clips . The real sentiment is in the tweets that follow , apart from the usual trolls . Its in those tweets and forums on u-tube ,face-book where opinion of people is expressed its the real pulse on any thing that's current .

Epirb, how come you're worrying more about the politics of a country halfway around the globe than what's going on right in your homeland? For example;

I wonder if you're even IN New Zealand. confused

BTW, if you want to discuss the problems with trichloroethylene I'll be happy to oblige.

The democrats today are not the FDR or Kennedy type.

It's the same with the so-called republicans that aren't much of the Reagan type.

The nation has very low standards and values compared to what helped it to grow in the first place.

It's like reading a report that says corporate profits have grown better under democratic presidents. They tend to leave out that wages have dropped and taxes gone up for the American worker while they yell corporate cronyism when and actual leader wants to lower taxes.

Where do you think those government hand outs come from to keep buying votes?

There are programs that are good for a person's future or even help when/if needed temporarily. Then there are programs that are only good for a politician's future.

Who pays for it all in the end no matter what the cost to the people when bad policies are allowed to continue?

The last republican president that set up some domestic policies to help the nation grow. Bush Sr. sucked but clinton didn't have to do much for a working economy. Bush Sr. raised taxes against his word but conceived the idea of nafta. Apparently, it's said, he was good at foreign policy.

Clinton gets a working economy on the rise, makes some tweaks with room afforded him by Bush Sr., then sells us out through nafta. Bush Jr. also sucked at domestic policy or true to politician form, had joined the rest in knowing he was covered at tax payer expense too.

Clinton did manage one year with a federal budget surplus and it has never been repeated since. Must be all that spending and government programs that shouldn't be.

That's okay. The tax payers will flip the bill. Except that for 2009-2017, there was little to no actual growth. Even lower wages. We did experience more taxes, fines, regulations, and mandates. More government program expansions too.

The internet is a faceless swarm devoid of human contact, there's no empathy. Forums and comment sections select for the worst of humanity and if not this then at least the worst version of yourself, they're for over-sized teenagers and bullies the internet is for many people the chance to be a blinkered, shameless and remedial version of yourself. All of this lends to a new way of doing politics.

Currently there is a coverup going on .

Botulism according to the AMA usually stars having effect 6-8 hours after eating infected food , there are recorded instances of a four hour time frame but are rare . Our current poisoning acted in minutes on three people . I have experience with 1080 secondary poisoning , the time frame suits 1080 , pig was from an area that had been poisoned by air to kill possums . Pigs eat dead possums hence the opportunity to have it in the curry . 1080 goes all the way through the food chain no matter what , people are warned not to let dogs into areas poisoned by 1080 because of the risk of a dog eating dead possums . Its taken for granted that meat , either deer ,pork ,trout are exposed to 1080 and are not to be eaten . I am against the use of 1080 and that stand has caused trouble , troubling to though , it is ,I benefit from the cover-up as its not good for an exporting country to have 1080 in its meat wild or not .
Still where were we ? that's right , where in the world would you have me living , as I have found you don't need to live in Washington ,London , Tel Aviv or Maruia Springs to know whats going on in those places .

Franklin D. Roosevelt is the most sainted president of the 20th century. You have to look far and wide to discover the truth about his character and policies. But as John T. Flynn noted in this landmark 1948 volume, FDR actually prolonged the Great Depression and deliberately dragged the country into a war that seriously compromised American liberties.

What's more, he did this despite campaign promises to slash bureaucracy and cut spending. He ran as a small-government liberal, a fact (among a million) that has been completely forgotten today.

This new edition has an introduction by historian Ralph Raico, who shows that this work still remains the best overall book on the FDR era. Flynn wrote a devastating indictment. If the contents of the book were widely known, the monuments erected in FDR's honor would be torn down forthwith.

So crucial is a proper understanding of the 1930s to applying Austrian School theory today that this work is highly recommended as a part of every Austrian library.

The contents of this essential work of 437 pages.

Quoting from the one person who hated Roosevelt with a passion, not exactly unbiased Conrad, but then I am growing accustomed to your right wing philosophies, sad as I had always held you with respect.

rizlared: I loved my time in the US, especially Texas, but it saddens me also that this once great country is allowing politicians to rip it apart. If the continuing conflict between the Republicans and Democrats is permitted to carry on, it will do exactly what most Americans are fearful the Terrorists will do, destroy the very heart of the United States.

It is time these children grew some balls, shook hands, and put a real leader in charge of the worlds most important superpower.

The destruction of the USA will benefit no-one but their greatest enemies.

Yeah it could escalate. There's a very real possibility that trump would fire Mueller and who knows what would happen. Even without that the divide just seems to be growing. Something has to give and soon as I can only see it escalating imo but hopefully reasoned minds will prevail.

Haven't spent much time there but I concur, I loved the Americans I met and its such a vibrant and varied country.
Not sure the USA will be the worlds most important superpower for long. I twas alread diminishing before trump proceeded on insulting nearl every all they have and his policies are driving more of a wedge. Their foreign policy leaves a lot to be desired and their borrowings will lead to less muscle on the international stage. Their respect on the world stage is diminishing, and while I have not agreed with a lot of their foreign policy. they still have the ability to effect positive change.
