DoubleFantasy: Having a 25 year savings policy mature this month and the payout being double of what I paid in. I see it as a windfall. It will now go to a fixed rate savings account which pays monthly interest - a nice little earner without having to do nothing.

You have more sense than alot of us here.
Enjoy the fruits

It was an endowment policy linked to my mortgage...all those scare story's about it likely to not meet the sum assured was all over the news back in the day...so changed my mortgage to a repayment mortgage and kept the endowment policy going...I was still paid out companionship by the financial ombudsman for the policy being mis-sold...and they advice to just see the policy as a savings policy.

My parents was into buying land investments for their children as opposed to leaving things in a Will. This helped very much also. Often a Will will mean your going to have to wait and possibly you will be in your later years yourseif. It avoids inheritance tax too.

I am reminded often by friends that "only fools and horses work"
I'm only too happy to put my efforts in to charitable causes that I have a affinity for.

You still need something to get up for...I have my "Pet Causes" to take care of that. I would say the best thing I am very fortunate in having, is having the time to be social, and accumulating over the years local friends in this part of London due to growing up here. Its like a village, that one no ones ever heard of - and thats how I like it to stay! bouquet

I'm still taken back by how London sprawls and the many places with in it where its like going to another country and you do feel you have been out, when you go out somewhere other than your residential neighborhood ...there is something in the air...you can feel the decadence and indulge in it, if only for a while.
