If the EU leadership had been a reasonable one, the UK could have negotiated an amicable split and a win win situation.
I see little purpose in blaming the British public for not knowing the whole truth, when in fact they mainly did know and understand.
I voted leave, but it was a close decision for me, I could see good and bad points on both sides, and it was not until the actual moment I voted that I made my mind up. If there is a second referendum, I would immediately vote leave, the way the UK has been treated is appalling and the sooner the UK is away from Junker and his sick supporters the better.
I cannot see how the UK can continue to be a part of the EU after all the bad feelings over the last year or two.
But no the people don't understand and a fast-food culture of instant gratification would be confused by the details. It's simple a case of the heart wants what it wants meets ask and ye shall receive. The gut says get out of the EU and this meets with gimmedat. That's what Brexit is, a gutsy gimmedat with virtually no practical understanding of how the world works.
