Google: What does unrequited love mean? Unrequited love or one-sided love is love that is not openly reciprocated or understood as such by the beloved. The beloved may not be aware of the admirer's deep and strong romantic affection, or may consciously reject it. ... It can also be contrasted with redamancy or the act of reciprocal love.
Is unrequited love really love? When people only feel lust or infatuation, they don't really love the other person. ... An unrequited love is simply a love that is not reciprocated in return. As anyone who has ever felt love knows, an unrequited love is still love, it feels like love and of course it is real. It might be tragic, but real nevertheless.

if one wants something in return for their love... that's not love, that's a trade.
I think love is just love whether its returned or not....having to have it returned is an attachment....and letting go is the best way to deal with that....would I ever stay in a relationship that was one sided tho? no because that's not being loving to myself.....a shared mutual love is what I would like that happens because we both choose it and each other.....

The thing is the other party will be definite that they love you, and you would disagree, as you have different measurements.

Probably true, at least in my observation and most folks definition of love these days. In general it appears that people want to be loved in the same way that they express their love. It becomes problematic because the other person expresses love in their way. We seldom mirror the same expressions of love.
The other problem is that romantic love is conceptual and concepts are a subjective ideology. Ideals are somewhat illusive, like dreams and Hollywood movies, and so the yin yang spins looking for stability it won't likely achieve. .... ever ...

i meant anything....any self or other expectation attached to the 'love' one thinks they are giving, so....guess that would include your list. love is given freely.
