You can read minds through tone of voice, body language and empathy, you are not really reading the minds.
You can project thoughts thought your body language, tone of voice and empathy, you are not actually doing it, as it is unconscious deductions.
Empathy as opposed to Sympathy, many have, as you can feel people and animals. This runs closely with projecting thoughts and reading minds...
Most people have these abilities, but are mostly too scared to utilize them, "scared of the unknown". I would say that you were brought up very much a loner, and learnt to use your latent abilities. It is not that uncommon....
