The symptoms of Ebola, Measles and Dengue fever are identical, including the rash in the body. It is believed that the two Americans that died in Fiji, were misdiagnosed, with the result of both dying. The CDC and WHO have not released the cause of death but treated the nurse that came in contact, she survives. We currently have a Measles and Dengue epidemics in the country, these diseases are usually not fatal Are we willing to risk a misdiagnosis .
It is only a matter of time before we are hit by the bullet that we have been fortunate to dodge so far. Ebola has increased its incubation period consistently with each outbreak. I remember the early outbreaks of the Ebola strains had a 5 to 7 day incubation period before symptom onset, then it was 10 to 12, then it was 12 to 14. Now...21 to 28 days.
The onset profile has changed as well: originally once it set on, it set on hard,. It disabled the host, burned them up with fever as it compromised the circulatory system and killed the host in short order. Now...the onset mimics the flu and it takes longer before the presentation changes from flu like to hemorrhagic like. This allows the host to move out away from the point of infection and infect others.
I'm not saying this is going to happen today or tomorrow...but it will happen. Heaven help us should it ever adapt to being airborne like the cold. Right now it's still particulate transfer (airborne fluids, fluid exposure). How long until it adapts again?
As for US infections...E. Reston has been the only outbreak in the US and it was confined to monkeys. and then the actual point of infection was the overseas point of origin for the monkeys and not an in-country vector.

epirb: If they had it . Not many monkeys in zoos from africa any more , most zoo bred . More chance of catching it from the 400 african migrants just released in the US who have not been screened for ebola .

Politicians are just scum , few years back when the swine flu did the world rounds we were told because we are isolated it would be the last place it turned up . Mexico had it bad , a school trip brought it back and NZ was one of the first outside Mexico . We had also been told " don't worry , the colony is in good hands" , balls to that , panic .
