I owned my own sandwich/deli shop in 1988-1990 a huge hurricane came through and we were out of power in '89 for a week and lost everything-then Subway came t town and I just went under! Miss the people, the thrill of being the boss, but honest t god, it was a huge burden lifted off my shoulder. Next business I have it won't involve so many employees!
I do reno's and construction. Been at it for just over 10 years now. I have taken a break and worked for others when things are slow but wouldn't want to work for full time for someone else again. Love the freedom of being my own boss even with all the headaches involved.
i dont have any dreams about becoming a millionair butt on these frosty cold winter mornings i love the fact that im the boss and dont have to start work untill the sun thaws the frost
Owning a farm is one of the toughest businesses to be in pal. My hat's off to you.
I had a small farm, probably nothing like yours though only 21 acres. beef cows, pigs & chickens. Job transfer forced me to sell it along with all my equipment. I did good with pigs but cows are break even at best. I sold a 600lb sow for .63/lb when "1's" were bringing $.50 I'll tell you the secret if you're interested.
Anyway, back on topic.
I owned 2 gas stations and a racecar shop, I also built racecar trailers. That was how I got pretty good at welding and designing. One of my trailers was towed at 110 MPH without a hint of swaying by a customer going across Arizona one night. Yes he had a Formula Ford on it. Today I am an independant trucker.
Oh yeah I forgot, I was also part owner of a co that manufactured pre-formed pizza crust, the kind they sell in the frozen food section. I was forced out of that venture by a group of guys who's last name all ended in the letter O
