Scottishlass: where both make a commitment to one another.
hmmm... Good question, This is only my perception of what I think.. I believe when two people make a commitment to eachother in terms of being together for the rest of their lives, both should give 100/100 into making it work..
It should involve love, kindness, and patience. Things should be discussed, not argued about.. If you reach a point where neither can agree, then agree to disagree, and let it drop.. each one should be willing to listen to the other and do their best to understand what the other is saying..
Each should be sensitive to the other's feelings, and avoid hurting one another.. I know it won't always happen like that, but as long as there is a true effort on both parts, conflicts can be avoided more often than not..

I could go on but for now, I hope this helps..
This is very good Daniel. You have stated, this as in committing for life. But I ask... Should we not use this same character in all of our relationships, in friendships, and even here on the site as we post? What would make a lifetime commitment any different? If we were to treat everyone equally in this manner, what specifically would make that lifetime commitment more bonding? More special or significant? Or... Is there really a difference?

This is a very broad question. There are all kinds of relationships, any interaction between two people is a relationship.
Whether a relationship is a good one or not depends on the persons involved.
IMO, the basis of any good relationship between a man and a woman, or any two people for that matter, is that both are getting what they want and need out of it, presuming they know.
