When conversing with a friend a few days ago, I started talking about the part Patrick Stewart played as Captain Jean-Luc Picard on the series Star Trek. Although I don't identify myself as a "Trekkie" and I don't adorn my room with sci-fi memorabilia, I realized that in my childhood I must have looked upon Capt. Picard as a 'role model'. Indeed, I suspect that the later steps I would take in life might have been influenced by the Captain's values of leadership, honesty, integrity and conviction.
Later on in life, I would look up to role models who were real - people such as Martin Luther King Jnr, who was instrumental in bringing forth the civil rights for Black Americans, Gandhi - with his policy of non-violence which helped India gain independence and also admired scientists of a certain caliber such as Albert Einstein.
However, I digress here... Has anyone out here (or there) have any 'role models' they looked up to as a child?
