Lionheart dear, this is not about those without sin to cast the first stone. As you put it, nobody should say the truth to the other, as if two wrongs made a right.
Truth is sacred, and whoever asks for it should be told no lies.
If this fundamental truth were to be done away with, in view of the sinner throwing the first stone or not, then the world would be submerged by horrible secrets like in those secret societies, where the person just behind you knows horrible things about you, but you don't know him fro Adan & Eve, because it is a secret society.....and those who have ever been in one, know what I mean.

To me, when we lie, it is because we suspect or are afraid to risk showing what and who we really are and what we really think and what consequences it brings. So we prefer to lie and try to get away with it. Also, sometimes bringing in just one truth means having to explain alot of other things which are not intended to be explained in the first place.
A white lie can actually show love. Reality can be so unforgiving and brutal, that we would want to soften it for the people we care for.
I think that most of the time people do not want to lie, but when confronted they simply do not find a better way out.

I think, when we choose to open our mouths and talk we should be careful of what we say.
If there is something that is going to hurt someone, we do have the option of not voicing our opinion.
On the other hand, it is good to open your mouth and talk when what you say can lessen the pain another is suffering.
Being nasty human beings, sometimes we just love to jump in and say what we feel like saying, irrespective of the hurt we cause others.....I know I do sometimes, especially here on this forum, and then afterwards I dont feel so good about myself. When I manage to exert some self control over myself .... tis amazing how good that makes me feel.
The Bible mentions that the most difficult thing about ourselves to control is our tongue!

On a serious note,this is a bang on contribution Donau. The funny thing is quite often it,s all a big charade, the liar knows they are lying,the being lied to knows it too,but they all pretend to believe the lies cause it,s not comfortable to do otherwise. So it,s all one big conspiracy. The other thing I,d like to add to is your comments about self delusion,believing one,s own lies. This nis sadly a very common thing,as is the art of piggybacking a lie onto a truth or half truth,or choosing ambiguous words and phrases. As the old musical song goes

The Bible Smoky urges us to have self control. We have the option to speak and give our opinion, or to stay silent. But when we speak, we have to say the tuth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.

Somebody made of straw is an expression meaning a person who has no sense of right or wrong.
I can understand why some lies are pleasant to hear. For example telling an ugly woman that she is beautiful. That is what she loves to hear. But it is only deception.
As for me being a saint, forget it, I am no saint. What I mean is that if something is true, I say so. This is the same as saying something is white or black. What I don't do is call something white when it is black, just because my audience prefers to hear me say that. I am no man of straw!! There is only one truth, and this is not subjective to the teller. It is absolute.

So to use beauty/ugliness as an example of what is a truth or a lie is a perfect way of showing that everyone's truth is only relative to their own perceptions and experiences ... Which I know, is not at all what YOU meant to explain but by choosing that example without wanting to, you are in fact demonstrating that evrything is relative ... Especially opinions ...

And by the way colour blind people do NOT have "an absolute truth" about colours ... so again we go back to perception ... What you see as red they see as green ...
