Wow some ladies here have thin skin. I have something about sarcasm in my profile and she automatically thinks I'm a bad person. I responded that people who have a problem with sarcasm have a low self esteem and then she blocked me from responding after her outburst of anger at me. Typical, start some crap and then when you get into it call the police. What's up wit dat?

I too can be quite sarcastic, facetious and love a good play on words but I don't know how you deduce that if someone doesn't like sarcasm they must have low self-esteem??? confused

Its simply not to their liking..... just as seafood may not be, or being an outdoorsy type of person. Sometimes, and I can appreciate it, sarcasm and the like can be hard to take for some people.... its personal preference but, that said, I am not sure I would equate mentioning sarcasm on one's profile with being a bad person. Perhaps you mis-intepreted what she meant?? dunno
cheers

Sarcasm can be seen as unattractive from a person you don't know. Have to admit if i didn't know a person well, and they were sarcastic to me, i wouldn't be too impressed. but jmo

slickness-good deal you came back!wave

yeah dry humor is great
rose said facetious-one of my fave words and concepts

it does become problematic online tho
when ppl arent willing to get to 'know someone' a bit
and have a foundation/frame of reference for the
'bad guys' personality...just presuming someone is a jerk
before 'getting to know them' might cause us to miss a good person

but its a double edged sword i spose
the sarcastic humor shouldnt be directly posted to someone
if we dont 'know' them a bit either

this makes us all have to be more adult
and im not sure thats what we always come here for-

i think one of the problems is they don't see the smile on your face or the twinkle in your eye when you say it. i have found that this problem has caused me some grief. I grew up with a very sarcastic family. You were always trying to get the first line out. It is a reflex for me now, and I find I have to control it. NOTgiggle

I guess I can remove it from me profile but why try to represent someone that you are not, honesty is always the way to go for me. Maybe I shouldn't have made the comment about self esteem, ha, must have hit a nerve.. No worries but to be blocked after a verbal attack is what rubs me wrong, no chance to debate anything.

There have been some great points made by all the folk on this thread. It was pointed out that expressions and body language, etc cannot be seen (or felt) which poses a problem at times. Morgan is correct that sarcasm probably wouldn't be greatly welcomed by someone who didn't know you well enough. I have a very dry sense of humour (being a Brit, of course) and some don't know how to take it, so that is something that I, too, have to consider. I didn't mention sarcasm on my profile (mostly because I didn't think of it, I guess) but then you don't need to put every facet of your character on your your profile, do you? There needs to be elements of your personality that someone will find out along the way, as they get to know you better...?? So, I don't think leaving that off indicates dishonesty....

cheers

why take it out of your profile if that is a part of you that you would like to share?

why bother wanting to debate it with a close minded person that you don't know?

why would you care?

drinking yeh, self esteem, hormone driven women etc etc...hits nerves around here....

wink just gotta find their pressure points is all.............

Some people say sarcasm is the lowest form of wit.

Perhaps that's true in some cases, but I think only witty people are capable of true sarcasm.

Sarcasm is an art. I love it and I enjoy a witty banter with another talented artist!
It can be so much fun when done right but some people just don't like it or understand it. That's okay, it's not for everyone. I can see why some people don't like it. With them I just don't go there.

I don't care for Sarcasm either. Although I am guilty of it I really try to refrain from it until I'm sure the person or persons I'm being Sarcastic to are onboard and I never use it in public where others may overhear.
