It's nothing personal. It's just because the buttons are shiney, and some of them have blinking lights, we can't help but to push them. Monkeys do it too, I don't see what the big deal is.

Put a "Slap in the Mouth" label next to the buttons. If the guy/monkey can't read, it should only take a few slaps in the mouth for them to get the point.
